  • [01] ̀easures to boost Greek wine

The government said on Monday that it had prepared a package of measures to boost Greek wine - its production at home and promotion abroad.

The measures focus on production of quality-assured products, especially exports, and the promotion and labelling of farm products that will further strengthen Greek wine's competitive advantages in the world market, the deputy agricultural development and foods minister, Alexandros Kontos, told a seminar in the northern port town of Kavala.

In the pipeline is creation of regional professional trade groups to cover stages in the wine-making process, including grapes, Kontos said.

Support will be given to modernisation investments for wineries and for new units to open in mountain areas and islands, accompanied by tighter controls on illegal imports, he added.

    [02] Archangelos 2005 international airshow in mid-September

The first international airshow to be organised in Greece, called Archangelos 2005, will be held at the airport of the 114th Battle Wing at Tanagra, in Viotia prefecture, from September 16 to 18.

The events will kick off on September 6 over Faliron, with precision flights, while throughout the three days of the airshow, a wide variety of aircraft will be on display on the ground and will perform air-borne manoeuvres, including simulations by Greek pilots of operational flights encompassing different threat scenaria, in a display of the Greek Air Forces' preparedness and abilities. The foreign crews will perform acrobatic manoeuvres, individually and in formations.

Aircraft and helicopters from the Air Forces of 20 friendly countries and 12 aerospace companies will also be taking part in the Airshow, in reciprocity of similar participations by Greek Air Force aircraft in similar events abroad.

A squadron of Britain's Royal Air Force (RAF) Red Arrows that will be participating in the international airshow "Archangelos 2005" arrived in Elefsina on Monday afternoon, giving the public a taste of what they are likely to see on those days by flying in formation above the Acropolis.

The nine aircraft will give a display on Tuesday afternoon at 17:00 in Faliro, and will return for the Archangelos 2005 airshow at Tanagra later in the month.
