Interior, Public Administration and Decentralisation Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos, addressing the inauguration of the 20th Book Exhibition at the Zappion Hall in central Athens on Friday, said that equal and unobrustected acces to books by all was a priority for the government.

"Strengthening the equal and unobstructed access of all people to books constitutes a basic priority of ours which is linked to the formation of active citizens and the promotion of the society of information and knowledge," Pavlopoulos said.

He expressed the "undivided support" of the state for all book enthusiasts which, as he said, "must be repeated with every opportunity". He also pointed out that "events such as today's are opportunities for the promotion of this effort and of the initiatives which have been undertaken in the direction of promoting the prospects of books."
