  • [01] PASOK to take initiative in education

Main opposition Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) leader George Papandreou announced on Tuesday that his party will undertake a "specific initiative" regarding the situation prevailing in education immediately after the completion this Sunday of the second round of the local government elections.

In statements on Tuesday regarding the education sector, Papandreou said "it is now certain that responsible for the impasse in the education sector is not only the education minister but also the prime minister himself."

"Today, the government had a meeting with representatives of our country's teachers. Thousands of families are going through an ordeal and valuable time in education is being lost. Instead of the government discussing on a responsible and serious solution, it is unable, refuses and shows yet again its true face: It opts for intransigence instead of dialogue, it opts for humiliation instead of integrity," Papandreou added.
