PASOK party leader and Socialist International (SI) President George Papandreou will travel to Sofia, Bulgaria, on Friday to participate in a session of the European Socialist Party's Council.

According to an announcement by PASOK, its president will be addressing the Council on the "Priorities of the European Socialists in light of the Euroelections in 2009," while at noon he will be participating in a luncheon served for the leaders attending the Council's session.

During his stay in the Bulgarian capital, Papandreou will be meeting Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov at the Presidential Mansion, as well as Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanisev and Italian Democratic Party leader Walter Veltroni.

The announcement further said that the Council's agenda is discussing and adopting the texts that will constitute the main body of the European Socialists' Manifesto in the 2009 Euroelections and more specifically: the European Union on the international stage: The promotion of a viable peaceful coexistence, the market economy with a Socialist content and combatting climatic change: From a planetary priority to a global opportunity.
