[01] Battle of Mycale anniversary
The 184th anniversary of the battle of Mycale was celebrated on
Wednesday in Pythagorio, Samos island. Deputy Merchant Marine,
Aegean and Island policy Minister Panos Kammenos who attended the
celebrations handed over to volunteer firefighters from all regions
of the island firefighting material and equipment.
"The ministry relies to the cooperation between the State and the
citizens. We value considerably the volunteers'assistance" Kammenos
said.
In the Battle of Mycale that took place on August 6, 1824, the Greek
fleet destroyed the fleet of the Sultan during the Greek war of
Independence against Ottoman rule.
