    The Monday edition of Athens' dailies at a glance

    The new tax measures and recent opinion polls indicating public discontent over the measures, and the extraordinary EU summit that opens Monday in Brussels to discuss the situation in the Caucasus were the main front-page items in Monday's dailies.

    ADESMEFTOS TYPOS: "ND maintains lead, Karamanlis still the most suitable for prime minister (in latest Kapa Research opinion poll, conducted after the announcement of the new tax measures, which was published in a Sunday newspaper), although its difference (with main opposition PASOK) narrowed".

    APOGEVMATINI: "3 percent salary increase for employees of DEKO (public utilities and organizations) and in the public sector - The second tranche of increases for 2008 begins today".
