  • [01] ÍD secretary Lefteris Zagoritis on vote for overseas Greeks

    The ruling New Democracy party's Organising Body discussed the party's action programming on Wednesday in light of the upcoming Euroelections and the initiatives that it will be assuming in Greece and in other European Union countries.

    Central Committee secretary Lefteris Zagoritis said in a statement that the extremely important issue of voting for overseas Greeks was also discussed during the meeting.

    "The possibility will be provided for Greeks living abroad to vote in the countries where they live and work as of 2011," Zagoritis said, adding that "the government will raise the issue in Parliament and let everyone assume his responsibilities."

    [02] ASE opening: Decline

    Equity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Thursday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 1.02 percent, standing at 1,726.58 points at 10:45 a.m., and turnover at 7.9 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving downward across the board, with the biggest losses in Construction, down 1.74 percent; Oil & Gas, down 1.62 percent; Food & Beverage, down 1.56 percent; and Industrial Products, down 1.52 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.91 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.67 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 0.22 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 17 were up, 64 were down, and 15 were unchanged.

    The economy and the measures to combat the financial crisis, the condition in public hospitals and speculation of a pending resignation by ND deputy Yiannis Manolis were the main front-page items in Thursday's dailies.
