  • [01] PASOK leader Venizelos addresses Athens rally

AMNA / PASOK party leader Evangelos Venizelos, addressing a rally in Syntagma Square in downtown Athens on Friday evening ahead of Sunday's general elections, stressed the slogan "we commit ourselves, we guarantee, we can."

Venizelos further said "we are proud to be Greeks and we belong to the democratic party that has never led the country to defeats and humiliations," adding that on the contrary, "the democratic party was called on many times to handle the consequences that were brought for the country by defeats and humiliations to which others led it."

The PASOK leader clarified that everything will be judged on Sunday and called on PASOK's friends and supporters to wage a struggle until the closing of the ballot boxes, door-to-door, citizen-to-citizen. He went on to say that the citizens who believe in Europe, are worried and are thinking to the last moment and said he was optimistic, noting that they are swaying the balance towards PASOK.

Venizelos also appealed to the party's voters in 2009, saying that on Sunday the life, the security and the perspective of every Greek family will be judged, "as well as whether the country will stay in the euro, if we shall enter ordeals leading the country to default." amna

He also raised questions as to which government can guarantee salaries and pensions in June, the expenditures for the operation of schools and hospitals and the citizens' deposits.

Another question he raised was which government can stand with Francois Hollande against the conservatives and the like-minded of (New Democracy party leader Antonis) Samaras in Europe.
