AMNA--Archaeological excavations at Tempi, conducted by the 7th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, headed by Ephorate director Stavroula Sdrolia, recently brought to light an ancient temple at the Ottoman-era 'Hani tis Kokonas' (Kokona Inn) site near Ambelakia.

On the western and northern environs the temple is surrounded by an extensive cemetery, which is one of the few finds that dates to the Mid-Byzantine period.amna

Sdrolia explained to AMNA that the excavations at Tempi began in 2008 in the context of the construction of a new section of the national highway from Maliakos to Kleidi at Tempi.
