  • [01] Farmers remain at roadblocks

AMNA--Farmers of northern Greece on Wednesday continued their roadblocks, and will participate in rallies in several northern cities as part of the nationwide general strike called by the two major labour union umbrellas GSEE and ADEDY for Wednesday.

Representatives from the 34 roadblocks set up throughout Greece will meet at the Nikaia intersection on the old Athens-Thessaloniki national road to decide what to do in the future. The roadblocks were set up a month ago.

[02] Piraeus Bank says general insurance production up 15.3 pct in 2012

AMNA--Piraeus Bank said premium production by its general insurance company was up 15.3 pct in 2012, a sharp contrast with a 11 pct drop in the insurance market in Greece last year, Triantafyllos Lysimahou, the bank's insurance activities advisor said on Wednesday.

Addressing a bank assurance summit in Athens, organized by Piraeus Bank in cooperation with Ergo and ING, Lysimahou said that premium production in life insurance was down 4.5 pct. He noted that the "group was strengthening" and added improvements in both procedures and products were forthcoming.amna

Sotiris Syrkamezis, retail banking director general, addressing the summit said, "We are at the begining of a new era for Piraeus Bank as the bank constantly grows", while Theodore Kokkalos, CEO for Greece and Turkey in Ergo said that the two companies completed three years of successful cooperation. Manos Hirakis, ING managing director of marketing, told the summit that an 11-year cooperation with Piraeus Bank was based on solid values focusing on the customer.
