  • [01] TAP natural gas agreement to be signed Wed.

Greece is formalising an agreement on the TAP natural gas pipeline with a signing at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Grande Bretagne hotel, it was announced.

The Host Government Agreement will be signed by Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras and Environment, Energy and Climate Change Deputy Minister Asimakis Papageorgiou, on the Greek side, and TAP Managing Director Kjetil Tungland.

The rejection by the Shah Deniz consortium of Azerbaijan of Nabucco as one of two contenders for transferring natural gas to Europe opens the way for the Trans-Atlantic Pipeline (TAP) as the preferred pipeline conductor, press reports said on Wednesday.

The consortium's choice between two competing pipelines - TAP, going through Greece, and Nabucco, circumventing it - was expected by the end of the month. The decision is of major importance to Greece, who is signing its final agreement with TAP this evening.
