  • [01] This is a historic victory for the Greek people, SYRIZA officials say

The election result, according to the exit polls, is "a historic victory for the Greek people that overwhelmingly opposed austerity," SYRIZA sources said on Sunday adding that the result "sends a strong message to Europe that can be the starting point of changes across Europe."

SYRIZA, the same sources said, "assumes the responsibility of forming a social salvation government, of implementing the Thessaloniki programme and negotiating in Europe."

Several party officials have already gathered at SYRIZA headquarters waiting for party leader Alexis Tsipras.
