  • [01] ND leader Meimarakis meets trade union representatives

ANA/MPA---New Democacy (ND) leader Evangelos Meimarakis on Monday met with representatives of productive organisations.

The President of the Central Union of Greek Chambers and ACCI Constantine Michalos in his statements underlined that unless there is political stability, it is difficult for the market to get back on track. "We need a government coalition because we are in a middle of a crisis, the worst since World War II," he said and announced adding that he has submitted equivalent measures of 4.6 billion euros.

"The market will not open unless banks open," the president of the Greek Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship and the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Piraeus Vassilis Korkidis said.

On his part, the president of SETE Andreas Andreadis stressed the positive developments in tourism, noting that we had a new record of 26 million arrivals with revenues of 15 billion euros.

[02] Budget revenues surpassed targets in August‏

ANA/MPA---Budget revenues surpassed targets by 1.6 pct in August, the Finance ministry said on Monday. In an announcement, the ministry said that budget revenues totaled 4.055 billion euros in August, up from a budget target of 3.991 billion euros. The ministry attributed this positive development to a 28.17 pct increase in tax agency revenues in the month, boosted by payment of the first instalment of income tax which was delayed for one month because of the imposition of capital controls on banks.

The ministry said that tax controls jumped to 39,614 in the June-August period, sharply up from 22,275 in the same period last year and 7,115 in 2013. The Finance ministry said it expected VAT revenues to grow in September and most notably in October.

[03] Greek islands awarded as favourite tourist destination

The Greek islands took the first place in the competition "Reader's Travel Awards 2015" conducted by the tourist magazine "Conde Nast Traveller" in the category Favourite Islands.

According to a ministry announcement, the Greek islands received another international tourist award. The award ceremony was held at a central London hotel.
