  • [01] NBG head Katseli: Mass real estate confiscation is against bank's interests

    The head of the Hellenic Bank Association and National Bank of Greece governor Louka Katseli on Tuesday expressed optimism over the successful recapitalization of the National Bank of Greece (NBG)

    Addressing the general meeting of the bank's shareholders, Katseli said there are good prospects amid strong interest and added that after the recapitalization,

    She also referred to the big challenges for the bank, that is the return of deposits and the dealing with bad loans.

    [02] PM Tsipras to leave for Istanbul on Tuesday

    The refugee crisis and the safety conditions in Europe as well as the bilateral relations will dominate Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' talks on Wednesday in Turkey

    The Greek prime minister will leave on Tuesday for Istanbul and at 20:30 will attend along with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu the football match between the national teams of Greece and Turkey.

    On Wednesday morning, Tsipras will meet with Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomeos (Bartholomew) and afterwards (10:30) he will leave for Ankara.

    [03] "It is September 11 for Europe," Defence Min Kammenos says upon his arrival at EU Council

    Defence Minister Panos Kammenos on Tuesday, upon his arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council on defence policy, stressed the importance of information exchange between the EU and NATO

    "Today we are all French. The EU Defence Ministers should take a decision because we have a new situation in Europe. It is September 11 for Europe. We must all assume our responsibilities. EU and NATO should exchange information" the minister said. He also added that the role NATO should play must be mainly at information exchange level.

    Asked on the guarding of the borders, Kammenos replied: "The borders between Greece and Turkey are the Aegean Sea. Border control by the Defence ministry means killing children. This is impossible".
