    The issue of the excise tax on wine, which became the foothold of an acute confrontation in Greek parliament on Wednesday during a joint parliamentary committee debate on the omnibus bill on prior actions,is being currently discussed in the meetings, Alternate Finance Minister Giorgos Chouliarakis and the representatives of the institutions have, Alternate Finance Minister Tryfon Alexiadis said afterwards

    The tax, which will add 30 cents to every 750 ml bottle, is one of the alternative measures proposed by the government, along with a separate tax on gambling, to avoid slapping a 23 pct VAT on education.

    [02] EU includes Greek energy projects in list of 'common interest'

    The European Commission announced on Wednesday a list of key energy infrastructure projects (Projects of Common Interest, PCI) in Greece and around the EU whose completion is considered important for the development of the bloc's energy market and the diversification of its energy sources and transport routes

    Among them are the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP); the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB); the Poseidon pipeline (Interconnection Turkey Greece Italy "ITGI"); the East Med pipeline; an LNG station to be developed by Greece's DEPA Company and GasTrade in Alexandroupolis city; a new compressor station for the nationwide transmission system of the DESFA Company; and the Tesla Pipeline.

    [03] Greek civil servants to rally on Nov 19 against omnibus bill

    Public sector union ADEDY called for a mass rally on November 19 in central Athens to protest against the government's "onerous plan" and omnibus bill with the third batch of prior actions which was tabled in parliament on Wednesday and will be voted on the day

    "Among others, the bill opens the way for mass foreclosures on poor households," the union said in its statement, adding that the agreement achieved with the creditors will only benefit bankers "who bankrupted their institutions by granting loans to businessmen" and are now rescued again with 10 billion euros.

    The rally has been scheduled at 18.30 (local time) on Syntagma square.
