  • [01] PM Tsipras congratulates Podemos leader Iglesias after Spanish electoral results

    Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras spoke with Podemos party leader Pablo Iglesias late on Sunday, after electoral results showed that Spanish prime minister Mariano Rajoy's conservative party lost the absolute majority in national elections.

    According to government sources, Tsipras congratulated Iglesias and agreed with him that the results signalled the political loss of austerity governments. The two men also discussed the prospects of a coalition of progressive parties forming to rule the country.

    In earlier statements following the electoral results, Tsipras said, "Austerity has been beaten politically in Spain as well," adding that "the powers that support society have entered the political scene dynamically."

    "Our efforts have now been justified - Europe is changing!" he noted.

    Following the counting of nearly 100% of the votes, Rajoy's Popular Party got 123 seats in the Spanish parliament (far below the 176 needed for an absolute majority), the Socialist Party got 90 seats, Podemos 69, and Ciudadanos 40 seats.

    [02] Economy Minister reveals the main points of the new sustainable growth programme

    The young entrepreneurship with the development of the high level of the manpower, the strengthening of the exports and the stable taxation environment are the main points of the new sustainable growth model according to Economy Minister George Stathakis.

    The minister in an interview to the Sunday edition of Avghi newspaper announced that the new growth programme will specify the strategy, the framework, the means and the tools through which the country course will turn to a positive figure. The innovation of the new development law, lays in its difference from the former general horizontal level, in two investment categories: The dynamic (farming, technology, medicine) and the already incorporated in NSRF with parallel combination of a number of other tools (subsidies, tax incentives, taxation stability).

    The key for the recovery, underlined Stathakis is the investment in the strategy of the high additional value of activities that will make use of the advantage that the country offers with the high percentage of young university graduates that can support the recovery.

    On the productive restructuring and the strengthening of the competitiveness he noted that the exports performance will be supported significantly while on the attraction of foreign investments he referred to the offered stability. "An incentive for a 7-year stable tax environment for those who want to invest for a long term will be provided" he said.

    [03] No metro in Athens after 21:00 on Monday

    The employees of the Athens metro will walk off their job from 9 p.m. on Monday until the end of the shift in protest against the privatisations.

    Moreover, TRAINOSE employees' federation (including urban railway) has declared a three-hour work stoppage from 12:00-15:00 on Monday against the privatisations of the port authorities of Piraeus and Thessaloniki and TRAINOSE.

    [04] Energy Minister Skourletis: Agreement on ADMIE a huge success for the government

    "The agreement for Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE) has closed and its implementation is underway. The agreement clearly states the need PPC to be compensated" stated Environment and Energy Minister Panos Skourletis in an interview to newspaper Agora.

    "We have agreed for an independent valuer that will determine the exact amount of the compensation as well as how the payment will be held" said Skourletis adding that "It is a great success of the Greek government that secures new ADMIE's public character and compensates PPC as enterprise".

    On the so-called parallel programme he said that it was retired from parliament but it will be re-submitted immediately after the holidays.
