  • [01] PM Tsipras: Allocation of responsibility and solidarity among EU fundamental principles

We have principles and values in Europe and one of our fundamental principles is the allocation of responsibility as well as solidarity, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Monday upon his arrival at the EU summit.

He said that the refugee issue is a common, European problem, and not a problem of one country and stressed the importance of finding common, European solutions. "Unfortunately, there were agreements between the two summits that were not implemented from everyone, and this is a problem for Europe."

"Today we are looking forward to concrete results in the meeting with Turkey in order to implement the Action Plan, to substantially reduce flows to Greece and combat networks of smugglers," Tsipras stated, adding that it is necessary to "significantly accelerate the process of relocation and have a credible relocation process."

[02] Return of institutions to Athens to be decided at Monday's Eurogroup

The return of the heads of the institutions in Athens to restart the review of the Greek programme is expected to be decided at Monday's Eurogroup that will start at 16:00 (Athens time) in Brussels.

Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos will represent Greece while IMF will be represented by the Fund's director of the European sector Poul Thomsen.

According to European sources, the tension between the institutions has de-escalated despite the issues that are still pending. The IMF continues to see a higher fiscal than the EU, however, eurozone officials express optimism that the institutions representatives are getting prepared to return to Athens under a common negotiation basis and announce their arrival within the week.
