  • [01] ANA-MPA and Xinhua sign cooperation agreement in Athens

    An agreement between Athens News Agency - Macedonian Press Agency (ANA-MPA) President Mihalis Psilos and the General Director of the Chinese news agency Xinhua, He Ping, was signed in Athens on Thursday, in a ceremony held at the General Secretariat for Information and Communication.

    Chinese Ambassador to Greece Zou Xiaoli and the General Secretary of Information and Communication, Lefteris Kretsos, were on hand for the signing ceremony. ANA-MPA President Psilos said the project inaugurates a joint Greek-Chinese site providing news and information for Chinese citizens around the world. "We want to broadcast Greece-China news to both countries without any distorting lenses," Psilos said in his address.

    On his part, Xinhua General Director He Ping said the project involved two very credible news agencies, which are uniting forces in order to broadcast news in a timely and reliable manner, so that both peoples can come closer and get better acquainted.

    The agreement provides for the exchange of news, videos, graphs and information materials on bilateral and international issues.

    It will also provide for the exchange of journalists, with the aim of extending cooperation in all areas.

    Xinhua will be represented by its director He Ping at the signing ceremony.

    Xinhua is the largest international news agencies in the world, with 170 offices worldwide and 31 offices in China, and the most important news source for nearly every newspaper in China.

    [02] 54,565 identified migrants and refugees in Greece on Thursday

    54,565 identified refugees and migrants were on the Greek territory on Thursday including 100 persons that arrived on the Greek islands in the last 24 hours.

    According to the Refugee Crisis Management Coordination Body's figures, 29,104 of the refugees are in northern Greece, 9,079 of them are in Idomeni camp, 14,499 are hosted in the region of Attica, 8,561 on the Greek islands and 2,401 are hosted in different areas in central and southern Greece.

    [03] Registered unemployment down 4.76 pct in April

    Registered unemployment fell by 4.76 pct in April, compared with March 2016, or 42,545 less unemployed, official figures showed on Thursday.

    OAED (Workforce Employment Organization) in an announcement said that total registered unemployed people (seeking job) was 851,596 in April, from 894,141 in March. From the 851,596 unemployed people, 443,293 remained in unemployment for more than one year, while 334,128 (39.24 pct) were men and 517,468 (60.76 pct) women.

    The number of registered unemployed people not seeking job totaled 141,050 in April, while the number of unemployed people receiving unemployment benefits totaled 125,254 in April, down 2.47 pct from March.

    Registered unemployment in the 30-44 age group was 40.15 pct and in the 45-54 age group it was 22.4 pct.
