  • [01] I would like to vote for the social benefit to the weaker, says ND vice president Georgiadis

"The agreement the government has signed with its partners provides for a social benefit to the weaker but on conditions and when the surplus is certified by Eurostat," main opposition New Democracy (ND)vice president Adonis Georgiadis said to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency radio "Praktoreio 104,9FM."

He also underlined that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' unilateral move violates this agreement.

"Why didn't he inform the Eurogroup on Monday on his intentions" said Georgiadis and estimated that this action would have a negative effect on the negotiation.

Asked if he will vote the amendment that provides the benefit to the weaker, Georgiadis said that he is willing to vote for it because these people need the money clarifying however "I do not know what my party will decide".

On the possibility of early elections, he said that Mr.Tsipras wants to be prime minister until 2019 but he estimated that it is difficult for this government to continue to rule the country for a long time because harsh austerity measures must be voted.

No migrants or refugees arrived on the northern Aegean islands (Lesvos, Chios and Samos) in the last 24 hours.

Police said that on Tuesday 5,731 migrants and refugees were recorded on Lesvos, 3,648 on Chios and 1,990 on Samos. All 11,369 migrants and refugees have applied for political asylum in Greece.

The agreements for the sale of 14 regional airports is not at stake due to the works at the Macedonia airport, the Transport Ministry said on Tuesday in reply to recent reports and New Democracy and PASOK statements.

After citing specific data on the course of the works in the airport, the ministry concluded: "The works are ultimately carried out by the current government and that's their problem."
