  • [01] Reduction of tax free threshold a blow to low incomes, Centrists Union leader Leventis says

The reduction of the tax free threshold is a slap in the face for the the very low incomes while the offset measures do not constitute a guarantee for the citizens that will only lose from the agreement, stated Centrists Union leader Vassilis Leventis in parliament during the "Hour of the prime minister" on Friday.

He also accused the government that it legislates precautionary measures that will burden the next generations when the ministers said that this will not happen because it is against the Constitution.

Finally, Leventis asked again for an ecumenical government that will be focused exclusively on the country's European orientation and will restore trust to the citizens.

[02] Hermitage exhibition at the Byzantine and Christian Museum extended

The exhibition "Hermitage: A gate to history" hosted at the Byzantine and Christian Museum will be extended until March 7.

Over 60,000 persons have already visited the exhibition and due to the high demand the museum decided to extend the exhibition which is organised by the Culture Ministry in cooperation with the Byzantine and Christian Museum in the context of the Greece-Russia 2016 year.

Artefacts, works of art, paintings and sculptures of the most important collections of Hermitage Museum dated from 5th BC to the 20th century are displayed in the exhibition

[03] If the review is not concluded soon, we will experience worser days, says Potami leader Theodorakis

"If the review is not concluded very soon, then we will experience even worse days. The Greek economy will lose 2.2 to 3.1 bln euros" stated Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis in an interview to Eidiseis newspaper.

He also claimed that prime minister (Alexis Tsipras) does not have the drachma on his mind but only the power and the power goes with the euro.

[04] Hellenic Petroleum reports record profits in 2016

Hellenic Petroleum announced record profits, production and exports in 2016 and said that last year it managed to lower its debt and to raise its domestic market share.

Net profits totaled 329 million euros in 2016, from 45 million in the previous year and a loss of 369 million in 2014, while EBITDA amounted to 836 million euros.

Comparable results showed an EBITDA of 731 million euros in 2016 and net profits of 265 million euros, from a loss of 117 million euros in 2015 and a profit of 2.0 million in 2014.

Hellenic Petroleum's board will seek shareholders' approval to a plan to pay a 0.20 euros per share dividend.

Efstathios Tsotsoros, chairman of the group, commenting on the results said that 2016 was a creative year despite an uncertain geopolitical and unstable international environment and a continuing Greek crisis. "We achieved the highest performance in the group's history, implemented the first stage of a financial restructuring plan and reduced our debt by 1.2 billion euros. We expanded our international partnerships, improved labor relations and safe operation conditions. We adopted the best governance practices and we are drafting a five-year program (2017-2021) for energy transformation and sustainable growth, a road map in the framework of a European plan for 2050".

Refinery production grew 16 pct to 14.8 million million tons, while exports totaled 8.6 million tons, or 56 pct of sales. Retail sales grew 7.8 pct to 3.538 million tons, while market share grew by 2.4 pct, despite a 0.26 pct decline in domestic consumption in 2016.
