  • [01] No discussion for implementation of measures as of 2018, gov't spokesman Tzanakopoulos says

"There is no discussion on the implementation of measures as of 2018," stated government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos in a press briefing on Thursday.

"At this particular phase of the negotiation at technical level, is necessary all sides to be cautious regarding the information they leak to the press. The negotiation should take place in the "battlefield" and not through leaks that cause confusion to the Greek citizens," said Tzanakopoulos.

Moreover, he said that reforms of 2 pct of GDP are being examined. Regarding the measures to be implemented as of 2019, he said that there will have no fiscal impact. The aim of the government is to take the country of the memoranda, the government spokesman added.

[02] The gov't brings the fourth memorandum by the back door, says ND spokesman Kikilias

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) spokesman Vassilis Kikilias on Thursday sternly attacked the government over the ongoing negotiation with the institutions claiming that "Mr. Tsipras and Mr. Tsakalotos are bringing the fourth memorandum by the back door".

He clarified that "ND will not vote the new package of fiscal measures". He also said that the request for elections is not linked with the completion of the second review. "SYRIZA can't be part in the huge effort for the country's reconstructuring because it only invests in division".

On the conclusion of the second review, Kikilias said that the government has made a series of statements and forecasts that have been proved wrong. "ND says that the review must be concluded in the best possible way. The delay and the elections in European countries raise demands for harsher measures", stated Kikilias in his briefing to the press.

On the national issues he said that "we defend with seriousness and firmness without flare-ups our national issues".

[03] European Union is experiencing an existential crisis, Commissioner Avramopoulos says

BRUSSELS (ANA/Ch.Vassilaki) - The European Union is going through a difficult period, an existential crisis and initiatives must be taken, European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos said.

Asked on European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker's statements and the five scenarios for the future of Europe, he said that this opens the dialogue among the officials, the European institutions, the governments, the political parties and the citizens.

"It is matter of responsibility. We are all responsible," Avramopoulos stressed.

"I believe in the value of the EU for the future of our children. The Commission should take a leading role and very soon we will be able to see the final selection," the Greek Commissioner concluded.
