  • [01] Greece, as member of the eurozone, has the right to act within the EU acquis, says EU Commissioner Moscovici

European Parliament Vice President Dimitris Papadimoulis raised the issue of labour collective contracts during a debate in the Europarliament on Wednesday.

Addressing European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici asked him to state the position of the European Commission on the matter and if he supports the restoration of the EU acquis in Greece on labour relations. He underlined that the group of experts, formed following ESM, IMF, EU, ECB and the Greek government's unanimous decision, tabled its report in December. The report requests the restoration of the collective negotiations in Greece.

The European Commission defends the European social model and foresees collective contracts and believes that Greece should be included in this model, answered Moscovici adding that "The group of experts' report is clear. The way we should move is according to the principles of the International Labour Organisation and the European framework."

[02] ND parliamentary group to convene on Thursday

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) parliamentary group will convene on Thursday at 13.00 at the Parliament.

The meeting will focus on recent developments.

[03] Wine tourism to be included in Greece's travel packages

The Federation of Tourist and Travel Agencies in Greece, FedHATTA, and the National Interprofessional Organisation of Vine and Wine held an event for the prospects of wine tourism in Greece and its connection with all inclusive holidays.

The aim was the integration of wine tourism in travel packages with the view to offering a special holiday experience in our country.

The event, which was held as part of the large Oenorama wine exhibition, presented Greece's wine landscape to Greek travel agencies and FedHATTA, as the main body of Greek tourism, had the opportunity to open the discussion on the association of wine production units with the tourism sector.

[04] Greek authorities approve Thessaloniki port's master plan

Greece's Port Planning and Development Commission approved the master plan of Thessaloniki Port Authority, offering a "green light" for the port's development in a 25-year period and determining the use and building conditions in the port, Constantinos Mellios, chairman of Thessaloniki Port, told ANA.

He noted that the master plan, which was approved by the Commission with only minor amendments, makes the Thessaloniki port the first port of this size to have an approved plan by the Commission in Greece.

Mellios said the master plan sets the axis of the port's development and noted that the buyer of a 67 pct majority stake in the port could make his own proposals but the Greek state will have the last word on any amendments in the prism of public interest and environmental protection.

The master plan aims, among others, the upgrade the port to the middle category of European ports and envisages expanding piers, raising capacity of cargo terminals, upgrading sea cruise facilities for home port and transit services capable of handling 150,000 passengers annually.

An international tender to submit binding bids to buy a 67 pct of Thessaloniki Port Authority ends in March 24. Four business groups have expressed interest in the tender. The winner of the tender will have to make investments of at least 180 million euros in the port.
