In an interview with the Athens Macedonian News Agency on Monday, Pavlopoulos pointed out the dangers for the EU future "because we are experiencing every day the conservative backslide to an a la carte Europe, something that no progressive citizen can accept". Moreover, Tzavaras expressed his pessimism over the negotiation. "The government is mainly negotiating with the society in order to accept the new measures and not the institutions." He also said that the government may delay the conclusion of the programme review estimating that the likely rise of extreme right in Europe ahead of the elections in France and Germany may change the austerity policies.
