    Sunshine is forecast in most parts of the country, with showers likely in the northeast. Winds north-northwesterly, moderate to strong, turning very strong in the south. In the north, temperatures will range from 18C to 31C; on the rest of the mainland from 20C to 34C; and in the islands from 23C to 33C. Temperatures in Athens between 24C and 34C; and in Thessaloniki between 23C and 30C.

    [02] ELA terrorist organization to be uncovered

    Following Savvas Xiros&#8217; testimony, witnesses will be asked to testify after 15 August. In tandem, efforts for the arrest of Dimitris Koufodinas are intensified. At the same time, according to information, the police authorities are close to uncovering another terrorist organization by the name ELA.

    Meanwhile, New Democracy party Secretary of the Central Committee Vagelis Meimarakis stated after a meeting with the party&#8217;s leader Costas Karamanlis that the government and the police authorities are doing their job well, in contrast to Vyron Polydoras&#8217; statements according to which there have been pre-planned arrests.

    Commenting on the main opposition&#8217;s different positions, Press Deputy Minister Tilemachos Chytiris stated that they harm Greece&#8217;s prestige.

    From his side, New Democracy party spokesman Theodoros Rousopoulos stated that the issue of terrorism should not be exploited by political parties.

    Finally, in an interview with NET 105.8, Defence Deputy Minister Loukas Apostolides stated that the government and police authorities are on a good track, adding that they have created a sense of safety to civilians. He also said that the issue of terrorism should not be politicized.

    [03] Venizelos optimistic about 2004 Olympic Games

    Exactly two years on 13 August before the opening date of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Culture Minister Evangelos Venizelos on Monday in a statement said that all Greeks must rest assured that the organisation of the Games will be impeccable not only from a technical point of view but also as far as the human values are concerned.

    The Culture minister said that all infrastructure projects are underway and advancing on schedule, reiterating that the use of the Olympic installations will go beyond the Games, constituting a legacy for the country.

    [04] Olympic Games in materialization phase says Kotrotsos

    ATHENS 2004 Press Manager Serafim Kotrotsos stated to NET 105.8 this morning that the Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games has moved from planning to the materialization phase, aiming at staging the Olympic Games in perfect way.

    Meanwhile, ATHENS 2004 President Gianna Angelopoulos - Daskalaki described as a landmark for the Olympic preparation the staging of the World Sailing Championship that is scheduled for this month (Aug. 16-23) at the Olympic sailing centre off southeast Athens.
