    Sunshine is forecast in all parts of the country, with cloud building up in the centre and north from late afternoon. Winds northerly, light to moderate. The temperature in Athens will range from 24 to 36C, at the islands from 24 to 33C and in Thessaloniki from 21 to 35C.

    [02] Electoral law changes to be discussed

    Within the framework of changes to be introduced to the electoral law New Democracy party MP Viron Polidoras will meet with the Interior Minister.

    Yesterday, Mr Costas Scandalides briefed the Secretary General of the Greek Communist party Aleka Papariga, who reiterated that her party would not participate in the dialogue, insisting on her demand for a simple proportional representation electoral system.

    The government proposal will be given to political parties after August 15, while the interparty committee will meet at the beginning of September.

    Today, the cabinet will meet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Costas Simitis to discuss the selection of supreme judicial officials. Then, Mr Simitis will preside a series of by ministerial meetings for the International Trade Fair in Thessaliniki and projects in Piraeus.

    In the evening he will be present at a reception hosted by the President of the Hellenic Republic Costis Stephanopoulos for the restoration of democracy in Greece.

    [03] Karamanlis refers to civilians' everyday problems

    Addressing the residents of Pefki, and Athens suburb yesterday, New Democracy party leader Costas Karamanlis referred to the civilians' everyday problems and quality of life, underlining that the results of the government policy were not the expected ones in the battle for the improvement of the civilians' financial conditions.

    [04] NAP aims at boosting of employment

    The National Action Plan of the Ministry of Labour that was publicized yesterday gives priority to the boosting of incentives for the rehabilitation of unemployed to working positions, high incentives for female employment, as well as programmes for the combating of long lasting unemployment.

    The Plan will be discussed in Zappeion on Wednesday by the National Employment Committee, which is constituted by representatives of social partners.

    The Minister of Labour agreed that unemployment constitutes one of the greatest problems of the Greek society, pointing out however that a decrease of 2.5% rate had been recorded in comparison to the respective period in 2000.

    [05] Government aims at 25% absorption of TCSF funds

    The government aims at achieving 25% absorption of funds from the Third Community Support Framework by the end of 2003.

    For this reason Prime Minister Costas Simitis had marathon meetings at the Maximos Mansion with the minister of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works, Development, Transport, Civilization and Health.
