    A cloudy and cool day is forecast, with local rain and storms, as well as snowfalls in the hills.

    Temperatures in Athens will range from 9 to 15 degrees centigrade, and in Thessaloniki from 7 to 11 degrees.

    [02] Electoral system changes in final stages

    Proposed changes to the country's electoral system are in their final stages and will be discussed tomorrow by the ruling Pasok party's Executive Office, and on Friday at a cabinet meeting. The last details of the government's proposals were finalized today at a meeting between Prime Minister Costas Simitis and Interior Minister Costas Skandalidis.

    [03] ND accuses government of corruption and lack of transparency

    New Democracy is expected to re-table in parliament tomorrow a proposed law on transparency in public life. Lack of openness and corruption have become the rule for this government, maintained New Democracy spokesman Thodoros Roussopoulos, following a meeting today with the main opposition party's shadow ministers, chaired by its leader, Costas Karamanlis.

    [04] Threat of hostile incident in the Aegean "real" says minister

    According to Defence Minister Yannos Papantoniou, the danger of a potentially hostile incident in the Aegean, on the part of Turkey, was a real threat. He made the comments while briefing parliament's Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee on the new structure of the armed forces. He added that Greece was in complete readiness to deal with such dangers, as well as with international terrorism and the influx of illegal immigrants.

    [05] Greek and Rumanian Defence Ministers meet in Bucharest

    At a meeting in Bucharest today, Defence Minister Yannos Papantoniou agreed with his Rumanian counterpart, Ioan Mircea Paskou that the security situation in the Balkans had improved, but the presence of international peacekeepers in Kosovo, FYROM and Bosnia was still necessary. The two ministers expressed the view that ethnic tensions were still strong in those places.

    [06] Greek Church sends delegation to Ecumenical Patriarchate

    Media interest is now focused on an expected reply by the Constantinople-based Ecumenical Patriarchate in relation to a resolution decided on by the Greek church, in a dispute over jurisdiction of northern Greek dioceses. Tomorrow, two bishops, representing the Hierarchy of the Greek Church will present Patriarch Vatholomeos with the decision, after a prior meeting with the head of the Greek Church, Archbishop Christodoulos, in Athens.

    [07] Italy vows to keep troops in Iraq despite deaths

    Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi vowed Italy would keep troops in Iraq to help the Americans, despite today's suicide bombing that killed 17 Italians in the armed forces' biggest single loss of life since World War II.

    [08] Palestinians install a new cabinet

    Palestinian President Yasser Arafat swore in a long-awaited Palestinian cabinet today, in a step towards resumption of US-backed peace talks with Israel and Prime Minister Ahmed Qurie vowed to seek a ceasefire.
