    The fire that broke out in Ymittos yesterday Wednesday resulting in the destruction of many hectares of forestall area has been put under control. Fire fighting forces remain in the area. The fire destroyed more than 1.000 hectares in one of the last pine forests of Ymittos. General Secretary of Civil Protection made announcements to NET 105.8 state radio station and spoke of arson.

    The fire that broke out in Stamata area has also been put under control. Civil protection is warning today about high risk of fires in Athens, Eastern Attiki, Piraeus, and South Evoia. Citizens should avoid action that may trigger fires such as throwing cigarettes or burning dry grass.

    Strong Fire Fighting Forces

    11fire fighting vehicles and 111 firemen, water wagon vehicles, volunteer groups, 100 soldiers participated in the fire distinguish efforts.

    As per the residents of Glyka Nera charges speaking of delay in the intervention of the Fire Brigade, the headquarters announced today that the first vehicle arrived in 40 minutes while all air forces, fire fighting planes and helicopters were constantly dropping water. The opposition party accused the government for dereliction of duty. Civil Protection of Athens Prefecture remains in alert and is in immediate contact with fire brigade and with prefectures of the area.

    Germany scores late goal to advance to Euro 2008 final with 3-2 win over Turkey that will always be remembered as the greatest escape artist of the European Championship. The Germans, though, staged the latest escape. In the most unpredictable of finales marked by three goals in the last dozen minutes, it was Germany which scored last Wednesday with a sweeping 90th-minute move by Philipp Lahm which ended when he sent the ball high up in the net for a 3-2 win. Now, the Germans will play either Spain or Russia in Sundays final in Vienna, boosted by an emotional win showing it can even prevail when star captain Michael Ballack is ineffective. «We showed our winners mentality. After 2-2 we knew that they can score late and it speaks for our will and character,» Germany coach Joachim Loew said.

    Tragic Death Toll in Philippines

    Tragic Death toll in Philippines rises to 622 deaths while 1.000 passengers of the capsized ferry are still missing. Hundreds of corpses are believed trapped in the seven-storey Princess of the Stars, which ran aground and flipped over with 865 passengers and crew on board during Typhoon Fengshen on Saturday. It must be noted that this is the fourth ferry of Sulpico Lines Company that has been sank since 1987. One of the companys ferries Dona Paz crashed in 1987 with an oil tanker resulting in the tragic death of 4.341 people. It was the one of the worst sea tragedy in the global history in a period of peace.

    UN special envoy Mathew Nimetz is visiting today Athens in order to re warm talks regarding FYROM name issue. Mathew Nimetz will meet with Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Mrs. Dora Bakoyiannis who stated in her meeting with her US counterpart Condoleezza Rice that the issue can not be resolved until July 9th.
