Papandreou in ParisWednesday, 10 February 2010 08:54Prime-minister G. Papandreou will ask for coordinated political reaction against speculative attacks in his meeting with French President Nikola Sarkozy on Wednesday and at the EU Summit meeting on Thursday, where the issue of euro-bond will be discussed. Mr. Papandreou opens his work visit to Paris with interviews to French daily "Le Monde" and magazine "Politique Internationale". His agenda includes a meeting with President of France National Assembly Bernard Accoyer and a working luncheon at the Elysee Palace, at 13:00 with French President Nikola Sarkozy. Next at 16:30, the Greek Prime-minister will meet with French counterpart François Fillon. Mr. Papandreou will leave for Brussels later in the afternoon to attend the EU informal Summit Meeting held on February, 11. EU Plans to help Greece Financial markets, however, anticipate European support to Greece leading to 4.96% gains in Athens Stock Market and drop in spreads on purchase of bonds. Reuters and "Financial Times" newspaper say that Europeans are preparing an aid plan to help Greece, not ruling out bilateral German aid. Today's issue of "The Financial Times" Deutschland, the German language version of the paper, reported on Wednesday that German Finance Ministry is preparing an aid plan to help Greece resolve its debt problems. Citing unnamed sources in the government, it said Berlin was looking at a European solution but measures by Germany alone were not excluded. German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble is expected to give details on the plan. At the European Parliament on Tuesday, EU Monetary Affairs Commissioner, Joaquin Almunia stressed that Brussels must help Greece provided it honours its commitments.
