    All major trade unions in the Mass Media sector (private and state run television and radio networks) have called a 48-hour strike action from 06:00 on Friday December, 17 till 06:00, on Sunday, December, 19 demanding signing of collective labour contract and protesting against lay offs.

    [02] Crucial EU Summit Meeting

    EU 27 leaders are nearing agreement to set up a permanent European stability mechanism. The stability mechanism requires a change to the Lisbon treaty and they are expected to approve a new revised treaty that would be in effect as of January, 1, 2013 and the future bail out mechanism to be operational as of July, 2013. In reference to the content and operation terms of the new mechanism, the summit will give instructions to Finance Ministers to specify technical details so final decisions can be reached in the next EU Summit Meeting, to be held in March, 2011. The Greek Prime-minister stressed it was time all lived up to their responsibilities.

    [03] Up to 38% Reductions in Food Products

    Following his meting with businessmen , Development Minister Mihalis Hrisohoidis announced reductions from 0.71% up to 37.9% in broad consumption products. Mr. Hrisohoidis underlined that the need for cuts in prices is necessary and it is a stance of responsibility and solidarity on the part of the state and businessmen. "Thirty-six businesses in the food sector and broad consumption goods will reduce prices to up 38% in some 661 products", said Development Minister after his meeting with 40 businessmen in the food sector.

    The Minister for Development said that the agreement reached with suppliers was drop in prices and not offers and the lower prices would be in effect during 2011

    Mr. Hrisohoidis added that there would be drop in prices of more products and called people to utilize tools provided by the state such as the price observatory.
