Subject: Brief Greek News Bulletin 6/6/95 Topic: mpa From: Macedonian Press Agency BRIEF GREEK NEWS BULLETIN BY MACEDONIAN PRESS AGENCY Thessaloniki, June 6 1995 BELGRADE:THE MEDIATING EFFORTS OF THE TWO GREEK MINISTERS CONTINUE The mediating efforts by Greek Foreign Minister Mr Karolos Papoulias and Defence Minister Mr Gerasimos Arsenis in Belgrade and Pale appear to be successful. The Bosnian Serb leadership announced that they are planning to release more UN peace-keepers this afternoon without giving more details. The Bosnian Serb Press Office in Pale said that they will be moved to Svornik, at the borders with Serbia, in order to observe closely the release of unknown number of blue-helmets that was going to take place today at 17:00 greek time. Meawhile, this morning new talks in Belgrade began with serb President Slobodan Milosevic for the release of the 257 bluehelmets held as hostages by the Bosnian Serbs. According to information, the Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadjic appears to think of accepting in their entity the Greek proposals submitted in agreement with the countries of NATO and the EU. After the talks are concluded a joint announcement will be issued that will include the points on which there was agreement. In Athens, Press and Media Minister Mr Evangelos Venizelos said that the greek consensus towards the rapid force, agreed in Paris in the EU and NATO Defese Ministers Session should not be considered as an involvement in the Bosnian crisis. Mr Venizelos said that neither the Greek participation in a force which will help the bluehelmets leave Bosnia should be considered as an involvement. The two ministers were expected in Athens late tonight. NEW EARTHQUAKE 4,8 ON THE RICHTER SCALE HIT THE REGION OF KOZANI. A strong earthquake measuring 4,8 on the Richter scale hit at 7:36'am this morning the region of Kozani. Seismologists believe that this tremor is in the framework of the aftershocks of the powerful earthquake that hit the region on May 13th and measured 6,6 on the Richter scale. FORMER US PRESIDENT BUSH WILL ARRIVE IN THESSALONIKI ON JUNE 10TH. Former US President George Bush will arrive in Thessaloniki on Sunday, June 10th in order to inaugurate the new branch of EUROBANK that will open in the city. Mr.Bush will stay in Thessaloniki for one day and on Monday, June 11th will leave on a tour in the Aegean with his family. He will leave Greece from the island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea on June 23rd. RESTRICTIONS ON GREEK MP's VISITING THE PHANAR SAYS TURKISH PRESS. Turkey is preparing to place restrictions on greek Parliament members visiting the Ecumenical Patriarchate in response to the "treatment" turkish Minister to the Prime Minister's Office Gildirim Aktuna had during his recent visit in Greece according to the turkish daily "Hurriyet". The newspaper invoking turkish Foreign Ministry sources added that over 30 greek officials had visited the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the past three years. THE INFLOW OF REVENUE IS SATISFACTORY-NEW FALL OF THE INFLATION The inflow of revenue for the 1995 greek state budget is proceeding in a satisfactory way, according to figures released yesterday by the General Accounts Office. According to the figures, revenue in May this year was 21,91% up, compared to the same month last year, totaling 608,2 billion drachmas while last year it was 498,8 billion drachmas. In the period January-May 1995 revenue marked an increase of 23,59% compared to the same five-month period last year, totaling 2,478 trillion drachmas compared to 2,005 trillion drachmas in 1994. Meanwhile, inflation dropped slightly during the month of May, according to figures released by the Statistics Agency. Based on those figures, at the end of May inflation was at 9,8% compared to 9,9% at the end of April. GREECE UNSPARINGLY HELPS ALBANIA, ACCORDING TO THE ALBANIAN PRESS. Albanian Minister of the Interior Agron Musarai will visit Athens by the end of June in order to meet with the greek Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Public Order, while according to the albanian newspaper "Populi Po", the agreements of technical nature and Greece's willingness to help Albania unsparingly are taking the place of political disputes between the two countries. The Albanian newspaper adds that the albanian foreign policy has changed giving priority to the relations with Greece while at the same time the Scopje - Tirana relations have worsened. GREEK-UKRAINIAN DISCUSSIONS ON TRANSPORTATION ISSUES. The talks between Greece and the Ukraine on issues concerning transportation of passenger and goods began today in the Ministry of Transportations and Communications and will be concluded on Thursday. Greek Vice Minister of Transportations and Communications, Christos Kokinovasilis is heading the greek delegation while head of the Ukrainian delegation is his ukrainian counterpart, Vitaly M. Reva. The two sides are examining the operation of passenger lines and also the transit transportation of goods. HUMANITARIAN AID TO BOSNIA FROM KAVALA, NORTHERN GREECE. The amount of money gathered in the city of Kavala for humanitarian aid destined for the region of Gradiska in Bosnia reached several million drachmas. Money was offered even by pensioners and elementary school children. In the humanitarian aid which is an initiative of the municipality and diocese of the city of Kavala, are also included 400 bottles of blood, medicine and food. The aid will be sent to Belgrade and from there to the region of Gradiska in Bosnia.
