    [01] GRECOBULGARIAN RELATIONS VERY CLOSE SAYS ATHENS

    Grecobulgarian relations are very close nad will get even closer said today Greek Press and Media Minister mr Tilemahos Hitiris commenting on the visit to Sofia by the President of the Hellenic Republic mr Constantinos Stephanopoulos and on the criticism Bulgarian President mr Zeliu Zelev is said to have made to his government for the close relations they have developed with Greece.

    [02] ND APOLOGISES ON HANDLING WITH SCOPJE, SAYS GOVERNMENT

    They feel the need to apologise, said today greek Press and Media Minister mr Tilemahos Hitiris when asked to comment on the dispute on books by politicians of the opposition on the way the New Democracy governments under mr Mitsotakis (1990-93) handled the relations with Scopje.

    They handled the issue irresponsibly and they admit that it is proved that they have failed, added mr Hitiris who stressed that what previous governments have done on the negotiations on the name of FYROm are not going to affect the new phase of the negotiations.

    The government did not exclude the eventuality that the minutes of the political party leaders summit be publicised if all participants including the then President of the Republic mr Karamanlis aggre so.

    [03] GRECORUSSIAN AGREEMNT ON POLITICAL MOVES

    Defense Ministers mr Yerassimos Arsenis of Greece and Pavel Grachev of Russia, agreed today after their meeting in Athens that both countries have a very impoprtant role to play towards stability in Europe as well as that crisis in Bosnia should be solved peacefully and on an equal basis.

    The two ministers discussed the cooperation on the military industry field while they shared the estimation that the current political situation demands a new approach in the development of the relations between countries and international political and military organizations.

    [04] GREEK MINORITY EDUCATION IN ALBANIA ISSUE OF CAPITAL IMPORTANCE

    Greek Foreign Ministry spokesman ambassador Constantinos Bikas commenting on the speech made by albanian Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Arian Starova in the conference organized in Athens by the Hellenic-American Chamber and the newspaper INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE said that Greece looks forward to the greek-albanian relations but regards education as an issue of capital importance because it refers to the greek minority rights in Albania.

    The Foreign Ministry spokesman also expressed the hope that Albania will keep its promises reminding that in the last meeting of greek Foreign Minister mr Carolos Papoulias with his albanian counterpart Alfred Serequi the greek Minister had suggested the forming of a committee to examine the issue of the greek minority's education.

    [05] THE ECUMENICAL PATRIARCH ON A FORMAL VISIT TO FRANCE

    Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomeos left today from Constantinople for an official visit to France. The Ecumenical Patriarch will attend the ceremonies for the 100th anniversary of the Saint Stephanos Cathedral while he will also have meetings with french President Jacques Chirac, the french Foreign Minister, the president of the french National Assembly and the president of the french Senate.

    During his visit the Ecumenical Patriarch will officiate in the Saint Stephanos Cathedral and in the russian Cathedral of Saint Alexander while he will also be awarded the honorary Doctor's degree of the University of Aix-en-Provence. The Ecumenical Patriarch will also visit Monaco.

    [06] SYRIAN FOREIGN MINISTER IN ATHENS

    Greek Foreign Minister mr Carolos Papoulias met with his syrian counterpart Faruk al Saraa in Athens in a positive and constructive atmosphere.

    After the meeting mr. Papoulias referred to the important role played by Syria in the Middle East, as a regional power, and stressed that this country is an important factor for the peace process in the region a fact that has been finally accepted by the European Union and the United States. Greece, said mr. Papoulias, is trying to contribute to the peace efforts and believed that the participation of Syria and Lebanon was necessary. The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on the Euromediterranean Conference in Barcelona and on Balkan issues.

    Mr.Papoulias thanked mr.Saraa for the syrian government's continuous support regarding the Cyprus problem and he stated that in the meeting was confirmed the close cooperation of the two countries on issues of strategic interest.

    Syrian Foreign Minister mr.Saraa said that there is political will for the strengthening of the bilateral relations. According to reliable information, in the near future Greece and Syria will sign a cooperation agreement on issues of education and technology, and on the promotion of the bilateral trade relations.

    [07] 1.000 CHILDREN FROM WAR TORN FORMER YUGOSLAV AREAS IN GREECE

    Over 1.000 children from the war torn regions of former Yugoslavia will be hosted in Greece for 6 months from December this year to June in 1996 after an initiative undertaken by the Central Association of Municipalities in Greece.

    A delegation of the Association headed by its vice- president and mayor of Kalamaria Thrassivoulos Lazaridis visited Belgrade and met both with representatives of the yugoslav municipalities and with Education Minister Dragoslav Mladenovic. The delegation also had contacts with representatives of the Yugoslav Red Cross and the UN High Commission on refugees.

    The children, 8-10 yearsold, will come from the regions of Krajina and Banja Luka and also from refugee families which were relocated in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

    The yugoslav Education Minister expressed his gratitute to the greek people for their readiness to host children from former Yugoslavia and offer them love and warmth.

    [08] INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF TOURISM JOURNALISTS IN ATHENS

    About 185 journalists from 50 countries participate in the 38th annual Conference of the International Federation of Tourism Journalists and Authors (FIJET) which opened today in Athens with main topic the relation of tourism and sports.

    Greeting those participating in the conference greek Minister of Tourism Nikos Sifounakis said that world wide the tourism product must diversify offering new services. He said that the greek government intends to give more incentives to businessmen in order to invest in special forms of tourism such as sports facilities, golf courses, conference centers etc which already are a priority in highly developed tourist regions.

    Tomorrow and the day after the conference participants will go sightseeing in Athens and will cruise in the Aegean islands.

    [09] EUROPEAN FORUM ON CINEMA AND TV OPENS TOMORROW IN CRETE

    The 7th European Forum on Cinema and Television opens tomorrow in the Aegean island of Crete and will be concluded on November 4th.

    In the conference will participate about 350 important personalities in the sector of audio-visual media and tele-communications from Greece and abroad. The forum is organized by the greek state television ET in cooperation with the European Institute for media and has the title "Building the European market, creative dynamics, economic tendencies, social needs."

    Among the topics for discussion will be the production and distribution of programmes and services, the economic dimension of the necessary technical equipment and the cost of the technological progress, the film industry in Europe and the legal parameters of the electronic media.

    Meanwhile, about 450 spanish tourist agents headed by the President of the Association of Spanish Hotel Owners arrived today in the city of Iraklion, Crete where they were officially welcomed. The visit is made in the framework of the Conference of Spanish Tourist Agents that was held in Athens.
