    NEWS IN DETAILS

    [A] NATIONAL NEWS

  • [01] APPEAL FOR SOBRIETY An appeal in all directions to keep things calm, so that the proceedings in the 17 N trial can be carried out in a sober manner, was made by the court President Michalis Margaritis, after the chaos that took place yesterday, when suspected 17N member S. Condylis intervened, supporting that what Patroklos Tselentis claimed about being threatened by Alexandros Giotopoulos is true. The proceedings will continue with the cross examination of Tselentis by V. Jorjatos' attorneys.
  • [02] CANCELLED DUE TO STRONG WINDS Today's events in the in the World Junior Rowing Championship in Schinias were cancelled, after the decision of the Organizing Committee and the International Rowing Federation, due to the strong winds in the area, 6-7 Beaufort, appreciating that there i s a serious risk of the vessels sinking, something that happened 4 times yesterday.
  • [03] CHILDREN OF WAR IN SUMMER CAMPS A few carefree days, far from the war and conflict they have been witnessing from the very first years of their life, will be spent by 170 children from Palestine, which are in a summer camp in Chalkidiki since yesterday, in the framework of the "Israel- Palestine" programme of the Central Association of Municipalities and Communities of Greece (KEDKE).

Children from Israel are expected to arrive in the next phase of the programme.

The children arrived in Thessaloniki two nights ago with the KEDKE delegation that traveled to Israel and Palestine and brought the children to Greece.

  • [04] KOUFONTINAS INTERVENES Dimitris Koufontinas intervened after the completion of Tselentis's testimony to the defense attorneys in the 17N terrorist organization trial, while he read a statement commenting on his fellow defendant's statements, saying that he twisted the truth ar ound. "He decided to cooperate, to say what the prosecution mechanisms wanted him to say. Soon however, he will find that there is no way to stop the decline down the path of cooperation. They will force him to tell other, gross lies, before tossing him a side", mentioned Koufontinas characteristically. The trial is continuing with the testimony of Vassilis Xeros, who admitted some relation to the organization, stressing however that he did not accept the preliminary proceedings.
  • [05] V. XEROS OBJECTION OVERRULED The court trying the 17N case overruled the objection raised by Vassilis Xeros, asking that his preliminary statements not be taken into account, as, he claimed, it was the product of threats and psychological force. The proceedings were completed with a

reading of V. Xeros' confession, while he left the court early as a sign of protest, as he said, to the interventions of the prosecution at the beginning of his testimony, in which he admitted some connection to 17N, but did not recognize the preliminary

proceedings. Dionysis Georgiadis is expected to testify tomorrow.
