  • [01] MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM... The intense reaction of the Greek government was caused by a New York Time's publication that supported that "Al Quaeda and other terrorist organizations friendly towards it, are active in Greece". Minister of the Press and the Media and Government Spoke sperson Ch. Protopapas commented that everything mentioned in the article is false.
  • [02] POSITIVE MOVEMENTS The government is concentrating on the Economy, while it is expected to move to impressive actions in the fall, aiming at, among other things, improving the governing party's image as a better administrator of the economy. These movements will concern th e basic sectors of the economy, as is the bank system and privatizations. In statements he made, the Minister of Finance stressed that a significant acceleration of privatizations is expected, aiming at an income of 3 billion euro.
  • [03] ALEC MALLY NEW US CONSUL GENERAL TO THESSALONIKI Alec Mally will be succeeding John Coenik in the position of US Consul General to Thessaloniki.

    Mr. Mally has been a carrier diplomat for the past 22 years. He served as charge d'affaires of the US mission in Pristina from August 2002 to August 2003. Before that he was the Head of the State Department's Greek Bureau in Washington, while he also wor ked in the Political and Financial Department of the US Embassy to Greece.

  • [04] INFLATION DROPPED TO 3.6% IN JULY Inflation in July dropped to 3.6% from 3.8% in June, affirming the appreciations of a de-escalation that had been expressed by Minister of Development Akis Tsochatzopoulos a few days ago. Harmonized inflation dropped to 3.5% from 3.6%.
  • [05] ND: SUSPICIOUS PUBLICATION IN NEW YORK TIMES The article in the New York Times on Greece's security, especially regarding the 2004 Olympics, was characterized as peculiar and suspicious by New Democracy Parliamentary Representative Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

    "This publication of the New York Times is peculiar and suspicious. In fact, both regarding its unacceptable content, as well as the time at which it is seeing publicity, in view of the 2004 Olympics", he mentioned characteristically.
