    [02] SOTIROPOULOU TESTIFIES TOMORROW

    Athens, 13 September 2002 (11:35 UTC+2)

Aggeliki Sotiropoulou, Dimitris Koufontinas companion and Savvas Xeros' ex-wife, accused of participating in November 17, will testify before Special Examiner Leonidas Zervobeakos tomorrow.

The 40-year-old woman was arrested yesterday in Exarchia, Athens, and has been charged with participation in a criminal organization, supply and possession of explosives by complicity and possession of arms by complicity. All of the charges are felonies.

Aggeliki Sotiropoulou denied all the charges against her. Officers of the counter terrorism service mentioned that the warrant for her arrest was issued after one of her fingerprints was found in the Damareos st. hideout, on the interior of a wardrobe, while two more of her prints were found on a book and a magazine in the Patmos st. hideout.

Her attorney, Gianna Courtovik, stated that one fingerprint is not enough for the charges to hold water.

Meanwhile, as soon as Dimitris Koufontinas was informed of his companion's arrest, he asked to see the Corrydalos penitentiary warden, while he called his attorney Mrs. Courtovik. Savvas and Christodoulos Xeros telephoned Alisia Cortez, in order to be informed on any developments.

The police are expected to arrest more women implicated in terrorist organizations within the next few days. According to the To Vima newspaper, the counter terrorism service has information on two more women from Dimitris Koufontinas' circle, who allegedly belong to the core of ELA.

It seems one woman has been living in Egina for years, and had been listed in counter terrorism files as a possible participant in city guerrilla activities, as well as a Nikea resident, who was related to anti-authority organizations in Italy in the past.
