    Minister of Finance Giorgos Alogoskoufis speaking during the discussion on the capital market draft bill, in which the reforms on the bank employees' social security and the voluntary retirement in the Greek Telecommunications Organization, OTE, are included, confirmed that the banks will cover the deficits that will result from the incorporation of the bank employees into the new auxiliary fund.

    Mr. Alogoskoufis stated that he rejects the riders submitted by Parliament deputies Evert, Dragasakis and Manos and backed a long national dialogue on social security that will last longer than the current government term.

    Evangelos Venizelos, responsible for main opposition Socialist Party of PASOK social policy, stated that the adoption of monthly installments favors the bankers.

    Mr. Venizelos stated that the obstruction of the discussion and vote on the Evert rider will constitute a laud violation of the Constitution and a display of repressive, undemocratic and anti-parliamentary attitude.

    [02] THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENSE IN SLOVAKIA

    Greek Deputy Minister of Defense, who was on a visit to Bratislava, had formal talks with his Slovak counterpart Martin Fedor yesterday.

    They signed a bilateral agreement for the protection of exchanged classified information. The terms of the agreement concern every future agreement or contract that includes the exchange of classified information.

    Also, the Greek Deputy Minister of Defense met with Slovak Defense Minister J. Liska and Slovak Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security Chairman R. Kalinak. He also visited the weapons industry plants at Trencin, as well as the biggest Air Base in Slovakia at Sliac.

    [03] TENSION IN THE HOLY SEPULTURE EXARCHATE IN ATHENS

    Tension was recorded this morning outside the Holy Sepulture Exarchate in Athens when acting Exarch Archbishop Theophanis of Gerason attempted to enter the building and assume his new duties.

    The Archbishop, accompanied by the legal representative of the Holy Synod Alexandros Likourezos, found the doors closed and with the help of a locksmith he was able to enter the building but he was unable to reach the halls he wanted.

    Clergymen supporting former Patriarch Irenaeus of Jerusalem are inside the building and stated that they have locked many of the halls and will not allow anyone to enter.
