Subject: Atlanta announcements From: Christos Markou The Hellenic Academic Society (HAS) in collaboration with the Hellenic Society of Georgia Tech is sponsoring: "3000 Years: Greek Music through the Ages". Mr. Vassilios Gaitanos, a Greek-American composer and musician will play the piano and sing. Mr. Gaitanos was the main pianist in Theodorakis's orchestra. In this capacity he traveled extensively and played in concerts around the world. This particular event would entertain and educate the audience on the history of Greek music as it developed through the ages. He was also one of the leading entertainers in Chicago's Deni's Den a few years ago. Mr. Gaitanos will play pieces from ancient Greek tragedies, Byzantine and Ecclesiastical Music, Rebetica, Folk (Dhmotika) and Popular (Laika) Music as well as the Anthem of the Olympic Games. A reception will follow the concert. The general admission is $5.00 for adults, and free for children and students. On the 28th of October the Hellenic Academic Society is sponsoring a lecture on "The Greek American relations during the last 50 years". Guest speaker is Mr. James Warren. Mr Warren was one of the members of the Marshal plan mission in Greece. He also served as the General MAnager of Exxon in Greece for 8 years. After his retirement, he developed a course for the Dept. of State on Modern Greece. The course was designed to give US diplomatic personnel who would be serving in Greece and Cyprus an overview of the Greek history, society, manners, economy etc. The event is to commemorate the "OXI" anniversary.
