PENELOPEIA: the other journey

A CULTURAL INITIATIVE OF THE GREEK EUROPEAN UNION PRESIDENCY

On the occasion of the Greek Presidency of the European Union, The Embassy of Greece and the International Monetary Fund Arts Association present PENELOPEIA: The Other Journey, an exhibition that celebrates the juncture of art, academia and international communication. This exhibit will be on view from June 18 - June 26 at the IMF Auditorium and Atrium Gallery in Washington, DC. The presentation and opening reception will take place on

Tuesday, June 24, 2003, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the IMF Auditorium and Atrium Gallery, 700 - 19th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20431.

Inspired by the mythological character of Homer's Penelope, 15 Greek women artists set sail on a metaphorical journey and collaborate with 8 more European women artists. Together they map the routes of their unique journey through a wide range of artistic media from drawing, painting, video, photography to digital art. Their search illuminated by contributions of distinguished scholars explores themes of personal and public interest and a discourse is being developed online. The exhibition is documented at: http://www.penelopeia.net/
