  • [01] ISSUE OF SO-CALLED GENOCIDE ON ARMENIANS TO BE BROUGHT INTO AGENDA OF BRITISH PARLIAMENT IN OCTOBER

    MOSKOW, Aug 22 (A.A) - Caroline Koks, the Vice Councellor of the

    House of Lords of Britain, said on Friday that she plans to bring the issue of so-called genocide on Armenians into the agenda of the British Parliament in October.

    Addressing a press conference in Yerevan, capital of Armenia, Koks noted she will continue to collect documents and informations concerning the so- called genocide on Armenians until October.

    Pointing out that the British Government has recognized that Armenians were massacred in 1915, Koks told the reporters that concrete evidences proving that action was a genocide could not be revealed so far.

    Koks reminded that it is her 38th visit to Armenia and 39th visit to Karabakh. Caroline Koks who accused Azerbaijan with massacring Armenian people, took sides of the Armenian occupation forces during the years of war. She has been providing aid to Armenia and Karabakh for a long time. Several representatives of the British aid agencies accompanied Koks during her visit to Armenia.

    [02] SEVEN SYRIANS ARRESTED AS THEY WERE FISHING ILLEGALLY ON TERRITORIAL WATERS OF THE TRNC

    LEFKOSA, Aug 22 (A.A) - Police arrested on Fręday seven Syrians who were fishing illegally in the southeast of Dipkarpaz village of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

    Officials told the A.A correspondent that Fahd Nasshe, Muhammet Nasshe, Hussein Serhan, Faiz Serhan, Nebil Bayta, Ammar Maruve and Haysem Serhan were arrested with the accusation of entering the territorial waters of the TRNC without permission and fishing illegally.

    [03] PREMIER YILMAZ VISITS THE ISTANBUL STOCK EXCHANGE (IMKB)

    ISTANBUL, Aug 22 (A.A) - Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz on Friday pointed out that he believed that there were many potentials in front of the Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) following the recent developments in the world and added that the government will be in an effort to evaluate this potential.

    Speaking during a news conference after his visit to IMKB, Yilmaz said inadequacy of capital and deficiencies in canalizing the savings to investments were the two obstacles preventing economic developments of countries like Turkey.

    Yilmaz pointed out that foreign capitals should be attracted to stock exchange adding that share of the foreigners in the investments of stock exchange were 50 percent. Yilmaz said foreign entrepreneurs have important share in the IMKB despite the crisis and that this was a proof that in fact foreign captial maintains its confidence to Turkish economy.

    Yilmaz said they were aiming to implement a program required by the economic realities to strengthen the confidence of foreign entrepreneurs and to provide coming of more foreign capital to Turkey.

    Premier Yilmaz also said Istanbul Gold Exchange was very small when compared to the IMKB adding that they wanted to improve Gold Exchange by cooperating with the IMKB.

    Yilmaz called on all native and foreign stock exchange entrepreneurs saying that ''we expect you not to exaggrate the economic developments taking place outside Turkey and to preserve the confidence to the future of Turkey's economy.''

    [04] MRAZ, SLOVENIAN CONSTRUCTION AND PUBLIC WORKS MINISTER DUE IN TURKEY

    ANKARA, Aug 22 (A.A) - Slovakian delegation headed by Jan Mraz, the Slovenian Construction and Public Works Minister, will come to Turkey in 22 August in order to hold official contacts, it was reported on Friday.

    The Public Works and Housing Ministry stated that Turkey and Slovekia will sign a protocol in 24 August during the Slovakian delegation's visit to Turkey.

    The protocol that will be signed by Yasar Topcu, the Public Works and Housing Minister, and Jan Mraz, aims at improving commercial and economic relations between the two countries.

    [05] ''TURKISH DAYS'' FAIR IN HUNGARY

    ANKARA, Aug 22 (A.A) - Ladin Fair and Congress Organization Services Company will organize ''Turkish Textile, Fashion and Leather Days'' fair in Hungary between November 5 and 8.

    Several organizations and institutes including the Turkish Embassy in Hungary, the Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade, and the Industry, Trade and Tourism Ministry of Hungary, will provide financial support to the fair that will be organized in Budapest, capital of Hungary.

    Nearly 30 Turkish firms are expected to take part in fair.

    Ladin Fair and Congress Organization Services Company organized previously the fairs of ''Turkish Days in Morocco'' and the ''Turkish Days in Jordan.''

    [06] GUREL, MINISTER OF STATE: ''THE GOVERNMENT EVALUATES US STRIKE ON SUDAN AND AFGHANISTAN''

    IZMIR, Aug 22 (A.A) - Sukru Sina Gurel, Minister of State, said the government was evaluating the US strike on Sudan and Afghan targets adding that they will make the necessary statement soon.

    Noting that he may individually evaluate the incident, Gurel said ''the US is the only country having interests in every region of the world and preserving them. Yet, the US should abide by the rules of the international law. We should consider the sissue from the view of super country.''

    Foreęgn Męnęstry gave support to the air strikes of the US on the terrorist bases in Afghanistan and Sudan, and condemned all kinds of terrorism whatever the sources or purposes.

    [07] NEARLY 18 THOUSAND TURKISH BUSINESSMEN VISIT BULGARIA

    SOFIA, Aug 22 (A.A) - A total of 17 thousand and 831 Turkish businessmen visited Bulgaria within the first six months of this year.

    National Statistics Institute of Bulgaria (NSI) stated that the Turkish businessmen come on the first place among the foreign businessmen visiting Bulgaria.

    Meanwhile a total of two million foreigners, 494 thousand Romanians, 271 thousand Turkish people, 306 thousand Macedonians and 165 Greeks, visited Bulgaria in January-June period.

    [08] 5TH INTERNATIONAL ANATOLIA MUSIC FESTIVAL - BILKENT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CHARMS ZELVE

    NEVSEHIR, Aug 22 (A.A) - The Bilkent Symphony Orchestra gave a concert at the Zelve historical place near Avanos County of Nevsehir Province, it was reported on Friday.

    The Orchestra conducted by Rodolfo Bonucci, play the ''Kocekce'' of Ulvi Cemal Erkin and several arias of famous composers.

    Bilkent Smyphony Orchestra will give concerts in Kayseri, Konya, Sinop and Tokat within the scope of the ''5th International Anatolia Music Festival.'' The revenues will be granted to the Nevsehir Directorate of National Education in order to contribute to the eight year obligatory education.

    Meanwhile Prof. Dr. Ersin Onay, the Dean of the Bilkent University Music and Theatrical Arts Faculty, said that they are very pleased with the Anatolian people who show great interest in the concerts.

    Prof. Dr. Onay stressed that more than 45 thousand people watched the concerts in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions. He reminded that the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra had previously given concerts in Siirt, Batman, Mardin, Sirnak, Sanliurfa, Adiyaman, Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep and Iskenderun.

    [09] ATATURK STATUE TO LATIN AMERICA

    ANKARA, Aug 22 (A.A) - Ataturk statue will be build in Baruta county in Karakas, capital city of Venezuela on Aug 30.

    Sonnur Yalnizoglu, Mayor of the Kirac, which is one of the regions of Istanbul, told A.A correspodent that Ivonne Attas, visited Turkey last year and gave signature for Ataturk, after participating in an inquiry opened by TIME magazine.

    Yalnizoglu said Attas was an admirer of Ataturk adding that he showed this by giving the name of Ataturk to a street within the borders of Baruta county.

    Yalnizoglu said Attas's family immigrated from Aegan Izmir province to Latin America 100 years ago and added that Attas wanted Ataturk statue from Turkey.

    Noting that preparations were underway related with the ceremony, Yalnizoglu said a group of officials were currently in Baruta and that the delegation which will be headed by himself will go to Venezuela on Aug 27.

    [10] ARCHAEOLOGISTS FIND OUT RUINS OF A PALACE BELONGING TO THE BRONZE AGE

    ESKISEHIR, Aug 22 (A.A) - The archaeologists found out ruins of a settlement unit belonging to the Bronze Age, near Yenikent village in Seyitgazi County of Eskisehir Province, it was reported on Saturday.

    Doc. Dr. Turan Efe from the Istanbul University told the A.A correspondent, ''we have began the excavations one year ago and now we have found out the ruins of the palace belonging to the B.C. 3000 period. The palace should had been used by the rulers of the settlement unit. At the same time we put out many pots and other primitive equipments. The settlement unit has a well arranged architectural structure.''

    [11] OPERATION IN SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIA REGION - 12 SEPERATIST TERRORISTS KILLED - ONE SECURITY OFFICIAL DIES

    DIYARBAKIR, Aug 22 (A.A) - Twelve seperatist terrorists were killed during the operations launched by the security forces in Ricil and Buzuderesi regions in Zumrutlu Village in Kulp County of Diyarbakir Province, it was reported on Saturday.

    Officials from the Governorship of the State of Emergency region told the A.A correspondeht that one security official died during the operations.

    Meanwhile four terrorists surrendered to the security forces in Silopi County of Sirnak Province and Nusaybin County of Mardin Province.

    [12] ADIYAMAN, THE OIL LAND - TPAO PRODUCES 26,000 BARRELS OF CRUDE OIL PER DAY

    GAZIANTEP, Aug 22 (A.A) - Turkish state run oil company (TPAO) produces 26, 000 barrels of crude oil in 160 wells in 18 fields in southeastern Adiyaman province known as the oil land.

    Mete Karancak, TPAO Deputy General Director, said the first drilling took place in Southeastern Anatolian Project (GAP) region in 1934 by a foreign company in Mardin Basbirin well and that the first national drilling was made in Raman Mountain in 1940 by Mineral Research and Administration Institution (MTA).

    Karancak said the first oil was found with a drilling made in Garzan region in 1951 adding that MTA handed over oil searching to TPAO which was founded in the same year.

    Karancak said 47,000 barrels of crude oil was produced per day in GAP region from 639 wells in 39 wells.

    He said although the oil produced in GAP region provinces have a gravity of 13-18, the oil in Adiyaman province has a gravity of 20-25. Karancak pointed out that cost of the well depends on the dept of the drilling and intensity of the operation adding that a well having a dept of 3,000 meters costed to two million dollars.

    Aladdin Middle East Corp. make oil production in Adiyaman region and produces approximately 25,000 barrels of crude oil per month in Zeynel field.

    [13] SECOND EXCAVATION IN CAPITAL OF CLICIA - TURKISH AND ITALIAN ARCHAEOLOGISTS BEGIN EXCAVATIONS IN ELAIUSSA-SEBASTE

    ERDEMLI, Aug 22 (A.A) - Turkish and Italian archaeologists headed by Prof. Dr. Eugenia Eqvini Schneider from Rome University Archaeology Department, began the second round of excavations in historical Elaiussa-Sebaste that was a significant center during the Roman Empire and early Christianity periods, in Erdemli County of Icel Province, it was reported on Saturday.

    King Archelaos had declared Elaiussa-Sebaste as the capital of Clicia in later B.C. 2000 period. The city later became a regional center in B.C 72.

    A great number of historical works were found out under the ruins of Elaiussa-Sebaste that was famous with its lumber, weawing and linen in those times.

    Tourists show great interest in the ruins of churches, water cisterns, gate of the palace, temples, basilicas, and monuments in the ancient city.

    [14] METITERRANEAN'S BIRD PARADISE: TURKEY - 450 KINDS OF BIRDS LIVE IN TURKEY

    KAYSERI, Aug 22 (A.A) - Turkey is the most significant bird paradise of the Mediterranean with nearly 450 kinds of birds, it was reported on Saturday.

    Tansu Gurpinar, Representative of the Protecting the Wildlife Association in Ankara, told the A.A correspondent that Turkey hosts perfectly the birds with her forests, rich plant cover, lakes, steppes and climate.

    Noting that two important migration route of the birds from Asia, Africa and Europe pass through Turkey, Gurpinar stressed along with natural assets, Turkey's geographical position make Turkey one of the most important bird paradises of the world.

    [15] SECURITY MEASURES TIGHTENED IN TURKISH EMBASSY IN UZBEKISTAN

    TASHKENT, Aug 22 (A.A) - Security measures were tightened in the Turkish Embassy in Uzbekistan, it was reported on Saturday.

    Representatives of the several Turkish organizations and institutes in Tashkent, will get an appointment from the embassy, and

    Uzbeks and Turkish people living in Uzbekistan will be subjected to tight security controls in accordance with the new arrangements.

    Umur Apaydin, the Turkish Ambassador to Uzbekistan, stressed, ''armed attacks on Turkish embassies by Armenians are known by every one. We have taken the security measures in order to prevent such attacks'', reminding the bomb attacks on the US embassies in the countries described as secure.

    [16] EXIMBANK GIVES LOAN TO KOBIS IN THE TRNC

    LEFKOSA, Aug 22 (A.A) - The Eximbank will expend loans to the small and medium scale enterprises (KOBI) in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), it was reported on Saturday.

    The delegation of Eximbank headed by Ahmet Kilicoglu, Director of Eximbank, who came to the TRNC as the official guest of Economy Ministry, held a meeting with Turkish Cypriot investors.

    Addressing the meeting, Kilicoglu stressed that they will provide loan to the appropriate projects.

    [17] TWO TURKISH PEOPLE TAKEN HOSTAGE IN CHECHENIA

    MOSKOW, Aug 22 (A.A) - There are two Turkish businessmen among the 17 people who have been abducted and taken hostage in Chechenia, it was reported on Saturday.

    Said Bargishev, the Commander of the Hostage Operations Unit of Chechenia, stated the names of the two Turkish businessmen as Isa Anda and Yalcin Cakmak, but relatives of the businessmen claimed their names as Yalcin Dashik and Burhan Cakmak.

    Turkish businessmen had met with Aslan Mashadov, Head of State of Chechenia, before they have been abducted.

    Businessmen who went to the region in order to give offers for the infrastructure projects and construction of a hospital in Grozny, capital of Chechenia, were abducted in 21 January.
