  • [01] CEM SENDS A MESSAGE TO IRAN AND OFFER HIS CONDOLENCES

    ANKARA - Foreign Minister Ismail Cem sent a message to Iran on Sunday after a strong earthquake jolted northwestern Iran yesterday. In his message, Cem expressed his profound sorrow over loss of life in the quake disaster, and offered his condolences.

    ISTANBUL - Argentine international midfielder Ariel Ortega who moved from River Plate to Fenerbahce arrived in Istanbul on Sunday.

    ANKARA - The extraordinary summit meeting of heads of state and government of member countries to the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) will become the scene of continuation of dialogue process between Turkey and Armenia which started in Iceland.

    GIRESUN - Interior Minister Rustu Kazim Yucelen said on Sunday that they would heal wounds of the flood disaster in Black Sea Region as soon as possible. Yucelen visited flood-hit regions in northern province of Giresun.

    ANKARA - True Path Party (DYP) leader Tansu Ciller said on Sunday that any language except for Turkish could not be education language in Turkey, however people could be granted the right to learn their mother tongues in private and specialized courses.

    ANKARA - The Minimum Wage Fixing Commission will convene on Tuesday to set the new minimum wage that will be valid as of July 1, 2002.

    SIVAS - Police found body of a person in a pool during their search after Saturday's LPG explosion in a filling station in Sivas province in central Anatolia.

    ANKARA - World Bank statistics revealed that although Turkey provided more rapid increases in exports, imports and national income than Spain, Portugal and Greece, which became full members of the European Union (EU) in 1980s, it cannot reflect this development in prosperity level of people due to high rate of population increase.

    ANKARA - President Ahmet Necdet Sezer returned to Turkey late on Saturday after partaking in the working lunch of heads of state and government of member and candidate countries to the European Union (EU) in Seville, Spain.
