[01] ERBAKAN IN PAKISTANPrime Minister Necmettin Erbakan, on the second leg of a tour of five countries, held talks in Pakistan on Tuesday which are said to have taken up the topic of joint investments in the military-industrial field alongside other bilateral issues.Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who met Erbakan on Monday at a military airport, later told reporters she wanted her Turkish counterpart to advise her country's Islamist parties on how to work with mainstream parties. /All Papers/ [02] PKK BLAMED FOR KILLING EIGHT NEAR SIVASEight people were gunned down by Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in a train station attack in Sivas' Kangal province on Monday, the Anatolian news agency reported. The suspects forced eight railway employees into a room in the train station and shot them before fleeing the station. Train conductor Bedrettin Gumustepe, station manager Kubilay Fidan, and technicians Ismail Berber, Aziz Ekici, Ismail Eryigit, Halil Ýbrahim Yavan, Cumali Cicek and Abuzer Sagnak were named as victims. Widespread investigation are underway, Anatolia reported.[04] TURKISH MINISTER INITIATES FENCE-MENDING WITH IRAQTurkish Justice Minister Sevket Kazan and Education Minister Mehmet Saglam on Tuesday met with Iraqi officials in Baghdad for talks. Priority items on the minister's agenda were both technical and economic. They also discussed issues related to the reopening of the 1,000-kilometer twin oil pipelines from Kirkuk to the Turkish Mediterranean terminal of Yumurtalik and securing for Turkey the lion's share from Iraq food purchases in return for $2 billion's worth of oil Iraq is now allowed to sell over six months under a deal with the U.N.Iraq's Vice President Taha Yasin Ramadan on Tuesday met the two Turkish ministers and called for enhancing bilateral relations. The Oil Minister Emir Reshid and Trade Minister Mehdi Saleh also attended the meeting. Turkish ministers Kazan and Saglam, later met with Iraqi Foreign Minister El Sahaf and Information Minister Abdulgani Abdulgafur. /All Papers/ [05] TRAINING OF BOSNIAN-CROAT SOLDIERS UNDER WAY, FIRST GROUP TO GRADUATE SOONThe joint programme for training and equipping troops from the Bosnian-Croat Federation following the Dayton Agreement is underway, the Anatolia news agency reported. According to a written statement from the Office of the General Staff, the first group from the federation's army is currently being trained in accordance with a Collaboration Agreement on Military Training signed between Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina on January 22, 1996. After the trained group leaves on August 20, the next group will arrive in Turkey on August 26 to start their training. The statement said that Turkey had contributed a total of $2 million to the training of military personnel during the initial phase of the programme.[06] RUSSIAN ENVOY VISIT TO ANKARARussian Deputy Foreign Minister Victor Posuvalyuk, recently charged with the responsibility for relations with Turkey, will visit Ankara on Wednesday on his first visit to Turkey. Albert Chernishev, the former deputy foreign minister who was responsible for Turkey-Russian relations, has been appointed ambassador to India. Posuvalyuk's first visit to Ankara is expected to involve familiarization meetings with Turkish officials and discussions of regional problems. /All Papers/[07] TWO ARRESTED FOR ENTERING MILITARY ZONE IN N.CYPRUSA Greek and a Greek Cypriot were arrested yesterday for entering a forbidden zone controlled by the military in the Gazimagosa district of Northern Cyprus on Monday, the Anatolia news agency reported.The two trespassers were taken to the Gazimagosa Military Court and sentenced to three days in jail. An investigation into the incident is continuing. [08] GERMANS ARREST TURKISH EXTREMISTPolice have arrested a third suspected Turkish kingpin of the outlawed Dev-Sol extremist group in Germany as part of a nationwide probe, the federal prosecutor's office in Karlsruhe said on Tuesday. /All Papers/[09] LEADER OF THE KURDISH ISLAMIC MOVEMENT:"PKK IS OUR BROTHER"Leader of the Kurdish Islamic Movement in Northern Iraq, Seyh Osman Abdulaziz said that they were Kurds and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) were also Kurds and that they were brothers. He said that they aimed to form an Islamic Kurdish state. He added that he had not discussed PKK terrorism with Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan. /Cumhuriyet/[10] FOUR COUNTRY SUMMIT GOING AHEADA four country summit planned by Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan to resolve the problems in northern Iraq is going ahead. Planning for the meeting has already started with contacts being made between Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria.The sides involved in the talks appear to be mostly in favour of the meeting. News reports from Iran suggest that the administration there wants to see a final solution. /Cumhuriyet/ [11] FUNERAL TENSION IN CYPRUSTension still runs high in Cyprus following the violence over the past weekend. Especially so as the funeral of the Greek-Cypriot youth killed in the fighting is about to be held in the Greek-Cypriort community. Both sides on the island are on alert to prevent a serious flare-up.In Athens, demonstrators have been protesting outside UN and Turkish offices where they burnt Turkish flags and chanted anti-Turkish slogans in Greek and Kurdish. /Milliyet/ [12] MARMARIS RE-AFFORESTATION STARTS IN NOVEMBERA delegation from the Forestry Ministry has arrived in Marmaris for research after recent fires that destroyed much of the forests in the region. The delegation, in cooperation with the Mugla Governorship, will prepare a project aiming to revive the burned forests. Re-afforestation is planned to start in November. /Milliyet/[13] "WE ARE EXERTING EFFORTS TO BLOCK MED TV"Med TV officials are trying to connect their TV channel, sponsored by the PKK terrorist organization, to a satellite space system serving TV channels from more than 100 countries. Med TV broadcasts were interrupted a while ago as a result of Turkish pressure on the countries providing broadcasting facilities to the channel known to spread PKK propaganda. Foreign Ministry officials have stressed that they will exert every effort to prevent the channel from resuming broadcasts. /Cumhuriyet/[14] ATTACKS AGAINST TURKS IN GERMANYLast night a building belonging to the Turkish Culture Association was attacked in Worms, Germany. In Bruchsal, Baden Wurttemberg, a Turkish shop was also attacked.
