[01] Greek public debt surpasses 300 bln euros in Q1
(ANA-MPA) -- Greeceās public debt surpassed the 300-bln-euro mark in
the first quarter of 2010, totaling 310.384 billion euros on March 31,
2010, up from 298.524 billion euros at the end of 2009, the General
Accounting Office announced on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Accounting Office said the Greek stateās cash
reserves totaled 7.519 billion euros at the end of the first quarter of
2010, sharply up from 1.1 billion euros at the end of 2009. (ANA-MPA)
[02] COSCO eyes more investments
(ANA-MPA) -- China and COSCO are ready to begin investing in Greece,
horizontally and vertically in terms of shipping activities, if an
agreement with Greek authorities is reached, Capt. Wei Jiafu, president
and CEO of COSCO, emphasised during a meeting in Athens with Economy,
Competitiveness and Shipping Minister Louka Katseli on Wednesday.
The meeting, which also included Theodore Veniamis, the president of
the Union of Greek Shiponwers, representatives from the tourism and
business sectors and the president of the Hellenic Banks' Association,
V. Rapanos, covered all business and shipping (ANA-MPA) plans between
China and Greece. Capt. Wei is currently on an official four-day visit
to Greece, accompanied by high-ranking officials of COSCO, a Chinese
state organisation.
Addressing the meeting, Capt. Wei referred to port services, sea
cruises, ship repair services and logistics, while he underlined his
countryās significant interest for investments in regional Greece.
COSCO has already established activities at the Ikonio cargo terminal
of Piraeus port.
