Patmos

BACK ISLAND 's MAP INFOXENIOS E-MAIL

Called 'Jerusalem of the Aegean', Patmos is an island made up of rocks and bays, its atmosphere biblical and peaceful. As you approach Patmos you cannot miss the monastery dedicated to the memory of St John the Divine (Agios Ioannis o Theologos), who, here, in one of the many caves of the island, had a vision of the Apocalypse (the Revelation). Boats arrive at the port, Skala, which is connected to Hora by an asphalt paved road, along which we can visit the grotto where the Apocalypse was written. Hora itself must be the most beautiful towns in the Aegean, with charming homes, colourful gardens, and churches interspersed among them. Once on the island, you must visit the famous Patmian School. Established in 1713, it functioned as a seminary and some of its students rose to the highest ranks of the Greek Orthodox Church. Other sites of particular interest are the church of Evagelistria, the monastery of Panagia Koumana & the Grikos church. Patmos has beautiful beaches: Merikas, Meloi, Agriolivadi, Lambi & Psili Ammos, just to name a few.
