  • [01] President Emil Constantinescu has been visiting Timisoara

During his last day of the visit to the town of Timisoara the President of Romania laid a wreath of flowers at the Memorial of the Heroes of the Revolution of that town, kept a moment of silence in memory of the heroes that were murdered during the Revolution of December 1989. Then the President visited the Memorial of the Revolution and had a talk with the members of the TIMISOARA Association.

[02] The Senate and the Chamber of Deputies resume debates on Monday, September Fouras part of the last session of the present legislature.

With the Senate, acording to the Chairman of the Romanian Senate priority is held by the passing of the nationalized dwellings and that for the privatization of the State Owned Farms. In as far as the debates of the Chamber are concerned Chairman Ion Diaconescu said that by the end of the session the bill on the reform of the judicial system of Romanian should be passed.

[03] Statement of vice -president of the Social Democracy Party of Romania Adrian Nastase

The first vice-president of the Social Democracy Party of Romania, Adrian Nastase estimated that neither of the four main countercandidates of Ion Iliescu in the presidential race, namely Theodor Stolojan, Mugur Isarescu, Teodor Melescanu or Petre Roman, would reach the second round alongside the President of PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania. Mr. Nastase is of the opinion that the resembling image of the four and the fact that each is attacking the others could lead to their loosing elections in the first ballot. Hence chances remain with the Greater Romania Party leader - PRM - Corneliu Vadim Tudor - who has been shaping his campaign and will continue to do likewise according to the negative attitude of those that voice their discontent with the developments in Romania in the last four years. On the other hand, if any of the first four could pass the first ballot, these are Theodor Stolojan or Mugur Isarescu who might be the adversaries of Ion Iliescu in the second ballot.

[04] Press conference of the vice-president of the Democratic Party, Radu Berceanu

The President of the Democratic Party, Petre Roman, has very big chances to reach the second ballot of the presidential elections and be a really tough competitor for Ion Iliescu, any other of the candidates that reach this stage will not be able to do anything else but facilitate victory for the leader of PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania - said in a press conference the vice-president of the Democratic Party - PD - Radu Berceanu who is also campaign chief of the Democratic Party for both parliamentary and presidential elections. The campaign of the Romanian Democratic Party will be strictly tailored to meet the expectations of the people and will not be focused on the politicians, underlined Mr. Berceanu among other things, specifiying among other things that a novel element will be the priority lists drawn according to the uninominal vote. There are three principles that are at the basis of this campaign: domestic competition, renewal which implies new names of potential parliamentarians and the unity of all positive forces of the party, also said the vicepresident of the Democratic Party quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

[05] Alianta Nationala - National Alliance - has its own candidate for the office of Romanian President

The National Alliance was created last Sunday in Bucharest by the merging of the National Unity Party of Romanians with the Romanian National Party, the latter party being led by Marian Munteanu who used to be leader of the higher education students during the anticommunist events of Piata Universitatii that climaxed with the coming of the miners to Bucharest on 14 and 15 June 1990.
