  • [01] Debates of the Romanian Senate

    The Senate adopted an accord between the Government of Romania and the Cabinet of the Republic of Moldova according to which Romania gives a loan worth twenty thousand million lei to the Republic of Moldova on a long term basis. Today the Senate is expected to make a decision regarding the report on the privatization of ROMTELECOM.

    The Head of the Committee for Budget and Finance quits his party

    Andrei Oprea, Head of the Committee for Budget and Finance, announced he left his party, Christian Democratic National Peasants' Party and he will run as an independent for the Chamber of Deputies in county Hunedoara, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

    [02] Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu is visiting county Hunedoara

    The Prime Minister has said the Government will guarantee a credit worth 3.5 to 5 million USD for the Steel and Iron Works of the town. The money is necessary to mount an ecological electric furnace which replaces the old one. Mr. Isarescu estimated that by this investment the entire area - whose life is interconnected to the activity of the Works - will benefit and people living there are also granted various facilities as the area was already declared less favored zone.

    [03] Future energy holding

    The President of the National Agency of Regional Development, Mihai David, announced at Petrosani, on Monday night, that soon the Holding is to be set up which ties up the National Brown Coal Company to the Thermopower stations of Paroseni and Mintia. The Prime Minister was also present and appreciated that the Holding would be very good for the privatization of the entire area.

    [04] The government of Sweden asked the Government of Romania to accept international arbitrage to solve the problem of the debt which Romania still has to pay back Sweden

    State Minister Mircea Ciumara said that the Cabinet of Sweden asked the Government of Romania to accept international arbitrage to solve the issue of the debt worth 3.8 thousand million USD which Romania still owes Sweden. Mr. Ciumara then said that consultations started with the leaders of the Parliamentary groups to learn stands in connection with the arbitrage. The talks take place at the suggestion of the PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania - first vice-president Adrian Nastase and are aimed at parliamentary support to reinvest the sum of 600 million USD which was first offered to Sweden as compensation for the debt. The issue of the debt was also tackled by PNTCD leaders and Alf Svenson, the President of the Christian Democratic Party of Sweden now on a visit to Romania.

    [05] Meeting of the Interdepartment Council for Romania's NATO Joining

    The meeting heard the reports of activity of the members of the Council and the status of the implementation of the plan for Romania's NATO joining in the year 2001 which already started being implemented on September First this year. State secretary with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, told RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI that the National Plan of Adherence will be presented in Brussels before the Political Committee of the Alliance and Romania will be represented by the managers of all departments responsible for the chapters. Another subject discussed was the necessity of the passage of all the laws which have to be passed as they are written down in the plan of adherence. Supplimentary funds are stipulated in the Budget for next year to go to the Ministry of National Defense so that reform may be carried.

    [06] Military Exercise COOPERATIVE DETERMINATION 2000

    By 10 November, Lucerne in Switzerland hosts the NATO Military Exercise COOPERATIVE DETERMINATION 2000 with the participation of the NATO Red Cross Committee, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, eight NATO members and ten partners among which also Romania which is represented by 21 command army officers as this is an exercise which is unfolding mainly on computers. Its aim is to develop joint understanding of the peace keeping operations as well as humanitarian assistance, reads a communique of the Romanian National Defense Ministry.

    [07] 70 years since the first programme in Romanian of the Radiostation of the Republic of Moldova

    The RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION of the Republic of Moldova celebrated 70 years since its first programme in the Romanian language. After 1991 the Radiostation of Moldova is still a state institution since its budget is state subsidized. Mr. Andrei Dimitriu who is the President Director-General of the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION attended the 70 year anniversary of Chisinau Radio and said that Radio Moldova must be of national strategical importance for Romania.

    [08] Bilateral accord between RADIO ROMANIA and RADIO BRASIL

    The President Director - General of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation, Andrei Radu Dimitriu, met with the ambassador of Brasil to Romania, Geronimo Moscardo, and with visiting president of RADIOBRAS of Brasil, Carlos de Cerqueira Leite Zarur, for the signing of the bilateral accord between the two institutions. The aim of the talks on Monday was the exchange of information materials. The President of RADIOBRAS is in Bucharest on the occasion of 72 years of activity of RADIO ROMANIA.

    The accord stipulates for the exchange of information and music between the two national radio corporations.

    The President of RADIOBRAS said in an interview to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI that , we quote: " from the political point of view Brazil is of strategic interest for Romania as well as Romania representing strategic interest for Brazil. Brazil is a very big exporter of food products and industrial finite products to countries of the Middle East, Europe and Asia, hence the inclusion of the harbor of Constanta in this circuit can play a very important part for both countries in this sense."

    [09] Gheorghe Hagi received the National Order FAITHFUL SERVICE with the rank of commander

    The President of Romania Emil Constantinescu gave to international football star HAGI the national order FAITHFUL ORDER with the rank of commander for the contribution made by Gheorghe Hagi to the promotion of Romanian football and the image of Romania in the world.

    Praising the footballer Hagi the president of Romania added that the man Hagi is also exceptional. HAGI answered that like any other person he thought of his country when he started to work hard for the success of his club team and of the national team of Romania. The star said in conclusion:" I am very proud my country is proud of me ". As is known Hagi plays for Galatasaray of Istanbul.

    [10] CALENDAR

    The President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, is attending the launching of the volume of poetry ROMANIAN POETRY AFTER PROLETCULTISM, AN ANTHOLOGY OF Constantin Abaluta which is presented to the public by literary critic Nicolae Manolescu, at the Cotroceni Auditorium, today at 17:00.

    Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu is now on a visit to counties Hunedoara and Caras Severin to meet with his Hungarian opposite number Viktor Orban at Valea lui Mihai to inaugurate the new frontier passage point between the two countries. The Romanian Prime Minister will then visit the Resita iron and steel works, the Ready made clothes factory ResiConf and the Caransebes Archbishopric.

    Today and tomorrow Romanian - Turkish consultations are taking place in Ankara with the Romanian delegation being led by Eugen Dijmarescu, secretary of state with the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Romania.

    The managerial bodies of the RADIO ROMANIA and of THE ROMANIAN TELEVISION which are the national public channels of this country meet with the Standing Bureaus of the Parliament of Romania and with the managers of electoral campaigns of the candidates to the Presidency of Romania to establish broadcasting time for each of them. Following a decision of the National Broadcasting Council the public companies are broadcasting electoral programmes for six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, one day more than during the previous campaigns.

    As part of the events dedicated to the anniversary of the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION the varnishing takes places today of the exhibition of painting and sculpting EMINESCU at 13:00 in the broadcasting house of RADIO ROMANIA.
