[01] ECONOMIC COOPERATION OF GREAT IMPORTANCE FOR AN OVERALL NORMALIZATION OF RELATIONSEconomic and political delegation of the Muslim-Croat Federation headed by the Vice-President Ejup Ganic, arrived yesterday on a two-day visit to Belgrade, and had a number of meetings with high representatives of Yugoslavia and Serbia. Delegation consisting also of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federation, Jadranko Prlic, was first received by the Deputy Federal Prime Minister Nikola Sainovic, and then had talks with the President of Serbia Slobodan Milosevic. Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs had a separate meeting with Minister Prlic. Talks were in the function of normalization of the relations and establishment of cooperation between Belgrade and Sarajevo. To this end, businessmen from Serbia and Bosnia had parallel talks about the issues pertaining to the economic cooperation.President Milosevic during the talks, emphasized that establishment of economic cooperation between many enterprises on both sides is of great importance for an overall normalization of the relations and stabilization of the situation in the region. Ministers Milutinovic and Prlic agreed that citizens are free to travel with passenger documents issued by their respective competent authorities without additional formalities. It was pointed out that the competent Yugoslav authorities have undertaken all measures for the refugees from Bosnia to be able to vote here on September 14, 1996 at the general elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina. From the Yugoslav side it was especially underlined that there is a need for the respect of continuity of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and adequate behavior of Bosnia-Herzegovina in the international fora. (Politika, July 24, 1996) [02] SECURITY COUNCIL SUPPORTS TALKS BETWEEN YUGOSLAVIA AND BOSNIA - HERZEGOVINAUN Security Council on Tuesday stated that the withdrawal of Radovan Karadzic from political and public life will facilitate now and assist the electoral process in Bosnia.In the press release read after the Council session by the French Ambassador at the UN Alain de Gamme, it is underlined that Security Council is supporting establishment of cooperation between Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which, it is said, will contribute to the building and revival of mutual confidence. Security Council has once again underlined the importance of full implementation of the Paris peace agreement, as well as of all the relevant resolutions which it had adopted, especially emphasizing the cooperation with the International Tribunal for War Crimes Committed in the Former Yugoslavia. (TANJUG, July 24, 1996) [03] AGREEMENT SIGNED BETWEEN YUGOSLAVIA AND RUSSIAPresident of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Zoran Lilic received representatives of the delegation of the Government of the Russian Federation headed by Sergey Djojgu, Minister for Extraordinary Circumstances.During the day, the Agreement was signed between the governments of the two countries on cooperation in the field of prevention of industrial accidents, elementary catastrophes and their consequences. Delegation of the Russian Federation was also received by the Federal Prime Minister Dr. Radoje Kontic, who received the invitation from the Prime Minister Chernomirdin to visit Russia. (Politika, July 24, 1996) [04] NEGOTIATIONS BEGIN WITH THE LONDON CLUBYugoslav delegation, headed by the Federal Minister Vuk Ognjenovic, is to start in London negotiations with the members of the International Coordinating Committee, representing some 400 of the largest world commercial banks, gathered in the so-called London Club. These banks were the creditors of the former Yugoslavia, and further to the regulation of the remaining debts, London negotiations are in the function of complete return of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to the world financial market. Today's negotiations, chaired by the representative of the American Chase Manhattan Bank, are the result of the agreement reached by the end of June, when the first official contacts have started between the FR of Yugoslavia and the London Club. (TANJUG, July 24, 1996)[05] YUGOSLAV GOODS AND PAPERS OF VALUE ON THE WORLD MARKETFrom the trading room of the Belgrade Stock Exchange since two days ago, and via Reuters network, information are transmitted about dealings on this stock exchange throughout the world. Thus, it was reported yesterday from the Belgrade Stock Exchange that over 300,000 tons of maize is being offered, at the price of 720 dinars per ton.Joining of the Belgrade Stock Exchange is of great importance for our companies and banks because, according to Christian Smith, regional manager for the Balkans, they can have at all times full data from the world stock exchanges and at the very moment the deals are made. (Politika, July 24, 1996) [06] TERROR PERSISTSViolence against Serbs in territories which the Croat authorities have conquered in the armed action last August, still persists, reveals the Croat branch of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights.In the report by the Board, whose copy was sent to the France Press news agency, it is underlined that in parts of the above territories "criminal acts continue, seizure of property and plunder". After the description of six cases of plunder and seizure of property, Helsinki Board states that "all this is continuously taking place ever since the termination of military operations and testifies about the incapability of Croat authorities to control the situation... This also proves that the authorities are not able to provide safety of people living in these territories", reads the report. Croat Board of the Helsinki Committee has so far published several reports stating the cases of violence against some 3,000 Serbs, those that have remained in Croatia after the military intervention. (Politika ekspres, July 24, 1996) [07] BANDITISM ON 'NO-MAN'S-LAND'At the border crossing of Batrovac, between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Republic of Croatia, on Friday July 19, 1996, Croat police abducted the Serb from Knin Zeljko Saric, 39 years old.Saric was accompanying his wife and children who were, with Croat documents, travelling to visit their grand-mother and grand-father in Knin. With the intention of helping the family with carrying the luggage towards the Croat border, Zeljko entered the space between two borders with the Yugoslav passport. On that 'no-man's-land', which is at this border crossing controlled by the UNTAS, a Croat customs officer approached him and suggested that he may 'freely' escort his family to the frontier-guard tower on the Croat side. Zeljko accepted and when he was returning back to the Yugoslav side, Croat policemen came to him and arrested him. Saric was immediately taken to Osijek for informative talk, and from there to Zadar, because there, allegedly, there are criminal proceedings filed against him. The family returned his wife and children to Belgrade. On the occasion of such increasingly frequent acts by the Croat authorities towards Serbs, former citizens of that state, the documentation and information center of Krajina in Belgrade "Veritas" has sent protests: to the UN office in Belgrade, to the UN Commission for Human Rights, to the observer mission of the European Union, to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Belgrade, to the Commission for Missing Persons and Humanitarian Affairs of the Government of the FR of Yugoslavia and to the Ministry for Relations with Serbs Outside of Serbia. (Vecernje novosti, July 24, 1996) [08] 'PRAVO': KARADZIC IS NOT THE ONLY CULPRITIn the case of indictment for war crimes against Bosnian leader Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, there is a talk of everything and anything, but the fact which remains outside of the focus of attention is the fact that crimes were being committed by all the three sides, therefore, also by the Croat and the Muslim ones, warns the Czech daily "Pravo" in its yesterday's commentary."If we are to accept the thesis that those responsible for the crimes of Serbian soldiers are Karadzic and Mladic, it is impossible not to ask who is responsible for the crimes of the other two sides. The UN Prosecutor Goldstone is rightfully afraid for the credibility of the world organization. It will really be in jeopardy if he and his colleagues are to continue to search for war criminals only in one direction", warns the Czech newspaper.
