[01] President Clerides - London - Cyprus problem
London, Sep 3 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides leaves London today
for New York, to attend the UN General Assembly and to participate in UN-
led proximity talks to solve the Cyprus problem.
Speaking yesterday in London after a meeting with the Secretariat of the
Cyprus Federation of Great Britain, President Clerides said the only way to
solve the Cyprus problem was compliance with the parametres set out by the
United Nations, adding that "any effort outside these parametres cannot
lead to a settlement" and expressed hope that "the Turkish side will
perceive this".

[02] Stockholm - Left parties - Conference - Cyprus - Resolution
Nicosia, Sep 3 (CNA) - The participants in the seminar "The just solution
of the Cyprus problem and its positive influence on security and peace in
the Eastern Mediterranean", organised in the context of International
Conference of Progressive and Left Parties of Europe, taking place in
Stockholm, have adopted a resolution underlining the urgent need to reach a
peaceful and viable solution to the Cyprus problem.
The resolution calls on Turkey and Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktash,
to comply with UN resolutions and the high level agreements of 1977 and
1979, paving the way for direct and substantive talks, and notes that the
negotiating procedure under way has not yielded results so far, due to the
fact that Denktash, with the tolerance of the external powers, insists on
his position for a confederal solution and the creation of two sovereign
states.
