    [01] President Clerides - Proximity talks

    by Maria Myles New York, Sep 23 (CNA) President Glafcos Clerides has said that the discussion on all four issues, defined by the UN in the context of the proximity talks, will be completed with Monday's meeting with the UN.

    The President said one could say there has been progress in the sense that the four issues (constitution, territory, security, property-refugees) will have been discussed at this fourth round of proximity talks, which started on the 12 and will conclude on Tuesday, 26 September.

    [02] Turkish Cypriot leader - Proximity talks

    by Maria Myles Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has said the UN is trying to please the Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides, adding that Turkish occupation troops might be reduced as part of an overall settlement.

    Speaking to the press after yesterday's meeting with UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser for Cyprus Alvaro de Soto, which lasted just over an hour, Denktash said, "I think the UN are trying to do their best to please both sides and it is a difficult task of course".

    [03] Nicosia - "Going to Town without a car"

    Nicosia, Sep 23 (CNA) - The main streets of the capital closed today to cars with commuters using buses and bicycles, for a change, in order to move around, all in the framework of "Going to Town without a car campaign" aiming at cultivating public awareness about problems created by atmospheric pollution, noise, stress and the lack of public transport.

    The campaign was organised by the Ecologists-Environmentalists Movement in cooperation with the Nicosia Municipality, the Town Planning and Housing Department and the Nicosia Buses Company.
