    [04] Cyprus President - Egypt - Statements

By Riana Magidou Cairo, Apr 20 (CNA) - President Glafcos Clerides has said that Ankara's negative stance over Cyprus opens the road for the Republic's accession to the European Union even without a settlement being reached on the island and said it is obvious that Turkey is to blame for the lack of progress in the search for a solution.

Speaking to CNA in Cairo today, before his meeting here with Prime Minister Ates Ebeid, President Clerides said Egypt will do whatever is in its means for a peaceful settlement in Cyprus based on UN resolutions and said there has been a convergence of views with the leaders he met.
