    Nicosia, Mar 8 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Thuesday and Wednesday: 09/03/2004 to 10/03/2004 -------------------- Weather mostly clear skies initially on Tuesday will patchy cloud in the afternoon. Increasing cloudiness on Wednesday with some local rain.

    WIND: Northeasterly to Southerly light winds on Tuesday. Southwesterly to Westerly moderate winds on Wednesday.

    STATE OF SEA: Slight on Tuesday. Moderate on Wednesday.

    TEMPERATURE: Maximum temperature on Tuesday will be 17C inland, 19C on the coast and 8C in the higher mountain areas. On Wednesday temperatures will be slightly higher.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 11/3/2004 to 12/3/2004 ------------------------------ Some cloudiness and slight probability of local rain on Thursday. Temperatures will be similar to those of Wednesday. Mainly fine weather on Friday, with a small decrease of temperature compared to Thursday.

    Nicosia, Mar 8 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos congratulated Greek prime minister elect Constantinos Karamanlis, leader of the New Democracy party, which won Sunday's general elections in Greece.

    Cyprus hopes to open Technological University in 2006

    Nicosia, Mar 8 (CNA) - The Technological University of Cyprus, the establishment of which is proceeding, will host five schools and will hopefully be ready to function in the year 2006.

    Minister of Education and Culture Pefkios Georgiades told a press conference today that the Council of Ministers has already appointed the Technological University's President, Vice President and members of the Temporary Administrative Committee.

    The Committee's President Andreas Demetriou expressed hope that the Technological University would be able to function in the year 2006, based in Limassol, noting that it was ''a great challenge to develop and operate a second state university''.

    All members of the Committee are from the academic field, mostly Cypriots. The University's schools cover the fields of technological applications, health services, administration and economy, geotechnical science, environment management, and applied arts and communication.

    Political parties want Cypriot negotiators to reach agreement

    Nicosia, Mar 8 (CNA) -- Representatives of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties, who met today, expressed their strong desire to see Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash reach a negotiated settlement, rather than have Greece and Turkey or even the UN Secretary General help finalise an agreement.

    Nicosia, Mar 8 (CNA) -- The separate but simultaneous referenda in the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides on a negotiated agreement on a UN plan for a comprehensive settlement will take place on 20 April, according to the UN.
