The US embasssy in Nicosia said here Wednesday that the last US
government chartered flight for assisted departees from Lebanon who
held a valid US passport of immigration/non-immigrant visa departed
from Larnaca Airport today.
``Of the more than 13,500 departees, which also included third-country
family members of American citizens, less than 1% are still waiting for
final decisions on their parole cases or were found ineligible to enter
the US,`` a press release issued by the US Embassy says.
The release also notes that the families that opted not to depart
Cyprus were offered transportation to hotels, and loans were given to
those American citizens with need, adding that the US Embassy is
assisting these people as they make onward travel arrangements from
Cyprus.
Stating that the US Embassy is cooperating with Cypriot Immigration
authorities, the release reiterates that the American people thank the
Government of the Republic of Cyprus and the Cypriot people for their
help in returning safely home more than 13,500 American citizens and
their families.
[02] EU HOUSE - CYPRUS
The Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and the
Information Office of the European Parliament in Cyprus took over
ownership of a three floor building at 30, Byron Avenue in Nicosia,
which is to become their shared premises under the name ``EU House``.
According to a press release issued by the Representation of the
European Commission in Cyprus, the move of the EC Representation and
the EP Office will take place towards the end of 2006.
